Read about the last study of the best and worst jobs.
I was surprised to see Child Care Worker at the bottom, while Parole Officer was at the top. I also looked through the list and couldn't find Graphic Designer.
I had to look up "roustabout" to see what that is. I think I've heard the word used before, but didn't know what it really meant.
Wikipedia says: A roustabout is a labourer typically performing temporary, unskilled work. The term has traditionally been used to refer to traveling-circus workers or oil rig workers.
Judging by the spelling of "labourer" I wonder if that is more of a British word.?.?
They get pretty detailed, but I'd have to say their formula doesn't work. I think they put too much stock in physical demands and not enough into mental stress. And it doesn't look like personal fulfillment factored in anywhere. And what about social acceptance? For example, in general, I don't think Parole Officers are really liked, but people love Firemen.
There's a couple I do agree with though. Being a Garbage Collector would probably suck. I totally would not want to be a Nuclear Contamination Tech. On the other hand, I could see myself as a Historian or a Sociologist or even a Meteorologist. And it would be cool to be a Movie Editor or Astronomer.
MZ, I don't think I would want to be a Nuclear 'Contamination' Tech either - I don;t think those people would be very well liked.....
Actually, I am a degreed Meteorologist, but over the years I've morphed into a software tester/quality assurance analyst who just just maintains an intense interest in the weather. I knew I wanted to be a weatherman since grade school. I always end up being the default weatherman for my co-workers wherever I work.
My job loosely falls into "software engineer". I like what I do for a living, but I dunno that there aren't but a handful of "better" jobs. I can think of several. Seems to me that it all depends on the person what is "better" or "worse" .

I knew someone else who was a meteorologist for the army, but worked in customer service after she got out. She said it's hard to find a job as a meteorologist. 'Course, she also got fired from the customer service job.
I'm an amateur meteorologist. I like playing around on the NOAA website and reading the maps to determine the weather myself. Especially during thunderstorms in summer.
