Lunch, weather and gas prices!

I am eating some red snapper that the boys caught Saturday, it is 63 and gas went from 1.40 to 1.60 in two days!

Just had some left over Chicken Parmesan. lick.gif Presently it is 25* and cloudy. I think I saw gas was $1.69 when I was driving home last night... we had the same 20 cent jump.

I think I'm gonna go to the little chinese place down the street and get some sweet and sour kitten, er chicken.

The temps are at 20 degrees with a 10 mph wind fairly consistent out of the Northwest. We're at our projected high for the day right now, but I suspect we'll surpass it by a few degrees. It's partly cloudy.

Gas prices are on the rise again. We're almost up to $2.00 a gallon. I read an article yesterday that said within a year we'll be back at $4.00 and likely will always be over $3.00 because the oil producers have a desire to keep prices at that point now that they know we'll pay it.

So keep buying your hybrids and alternative fuel cars and lets send these middle eastern countries back into third world status! angered.gif

JD, I had to laugh the last time I was in Subway.

The guy in front of me in line got up to the front and said to the clerk "Maybe I'll try this Black Forest Ham, what's the story on that".  The clerk said "uh, well, it's just ham, it's the only ham we carry".

I must admit, I assumed it was a special ham that maybe they only had for a limited time or something.

Another glimpse into the world of advertising I suppose smile.gif

Soup, diet cherry coke, water, some cheese popcorn and two cookies.

Cloudy, 34 degrees with wind. Blah.

When I filled up Friday it was $1.59 but I have seen it on the rise. It is $1.79 across the street from the house. It has jumped from $1.61 on Wednesday or Thursday of last week.

We took a client out to lunch today. I had salmon with caper lemon butter and a baked potato. And ice tea.

I don't think we're going to get up to our high today. It's currently 21 and cloudy and the high is 31. Luckily, it's supposed to be 44 tomorrow.

Gas is $1.99 here. I'm wondering if gas starts getting towards the $4 range again that there might be some talk of government mandated price caps. I don't know how I feel about that in general, but that's my prediction.

And even though it wasn't asked, I would like to mention that I'm wearing a pink cashmere sweater today. A friend gave it to me last weekend, and this is the first time I've worn it. This is the first time I've worn cashmere, it's lovely.

Its sunny and 50 degrees . . . very nice.

I forgot to look and see what gas is as I went by.

I've wondered that myself.  With a Democrat in office I'd say it's a possibility.  I don't think it would ever happen with a Republican controlled congress and white house.

To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it either.  I'm very much a free market guy.  But I'm starting to wonder if there aren't a few industries that are just too important to us as a nation to allow the greed to go unchecked in them.

Health care is another one.

It's kind of a mauve-y color.  It makes me feel kind of classy too.  I paired it with a pair of gray pants, and I feel very put together.  It's a confidence booster.

NZ- sounds nice looking and I am glad that you feel confident today. :)

And I agree about the gas and health care caps!

Exactly.  I think it's dangerous when the government controls prices, but at the same time, the price of gas directly affects the economy.  Right now, they need people to spend.  When gas prices go up, even if you don't drive, it creates a public panic and people stop spending money.  I think messing with the system to raise gas prices is just as much of a hit to the economy as artificially inflating home prices.

I think the days of deregulation have died with George Bush leaving the White House. Now we will have a Chief Performance Officer to make sure everybody is doing what they are supposed to with the upcoming near billion dollar economic stimulus.

I'm in the "loves cashmere" gang... I have a couple sweaters. nod.gif

I'm scared about this Chief Performance Officer position. This position has the opportunity to clean things up, but they also have the chance of micro-managing it.

If she does her job like the people want her to, there will be no more $250,000 bathrooms.

If she does her job similar to the way similar positions are run in corporations, there will still be $250,000 bathrooms, but paperclips, pens, and tape to government workers will be rationed.

I had a slice of leftover pizza and a Coke for lunch.  It's sunny and 30 out; so good to see the sunshine after almost 2 months of clouds and snow. Gas is $1.99 here; it jumped .25 cents since this morning. hmm

It will be interesting to see if the Chief Performance Officer actually can weild any power. To me it smacks of naive optimism... that position is supposed to oversee all of these expendatures, but how are they really going to do that when they are giving money to various businesses and government agencies that already have their own people deciding how to spend their money (for better or worse). I see that position as a largely futile effort.

That's kind of my point.  It's harder to be proactive with the main offenders because they kind of get to do what they want anyway.  I'm afraid it will be, "You spent how much on what?!  No!  Bad Senator!"  What is she going to do, whack them with a newspaper?  But, micro managing the bottom of the totem pole, the people with defined expenses, will be easier.  And isn't this really what this position is, a micro-manager?  Or is it a ceremonial position?  "Look, we have this person that will come after you if you spend too much, so don't do it, 'kay?"

If you take into consideration that there is already a governmental body in charge of overseeing government expendatures, that being General Services Administration, I think this is going to be a ceremonial position. Good for them for creating a few new jobs, but if you consider that GSA holds the purse strings, the Chief Performance Officer would have to go through them to get the money to buy the newspaper to whack someone with. GSA just might say no because they are busy spending the money on another quarter million dollar bathroom.

GSA is the division that allowed the quarter million dollar bathroom makeover. And technically it was apparently APPROVED for a quarter of a million dollars. GSA was proud to report that the Secretary of Interior's bathroom came in $26,000 under the approved budget... and that all expenses were appropriate and reasonable.

I didn't know that was the way that worked. Hm, that does complicate it even more. Perhaps the CPO (hehe, what if there were three? *giggle*) has authority over the GSA?

That is how it works... my mom worked for them for about 35 years. GSA handles payroll for the government and manages all government expenses. These are the people who years back brought you the $500 toilet seat and the $300 screw driver.

Governmental agencies derive their power from laws passed by Congress. Just the act of creating a position does not give the position power.

I kind of look at this with the same eye of suspicion that I did when Congress agreed to give money to the automakers with the stipulation that if they don't like how the automakers spend the money then they have to give it back. Think about that for a minute: Congress gave billions of dollars to the auto makers because they don't have any money. They are supposed to spend this money to make themselves viable again. If they don't make themselves viable again, then they have to give back the money that they already spent from a loan they had to get because they didn't have any money to start with. weirdface.gif HOW?!? Can't give back what you don't have.

So, the problem here is the GSA.

If I were President Obama, I might handle it this way: Hire someone in this new position. Have them "analyze spending." Then, have that person report that the GSA is not doing their job correctly. Coordinate with media to produce public outcry. From there, hopefully congress will pass a bill requiring the GSA to do their job correctly.

Hm, would that work?
