Currently playing on Freeze-Frame Radio

I always thought it would be neat to have a thread where we could comment on what is currently being played on Freeze-Frame Radio, whether it's a positive or negative comment on the song, a memory the song conjures up, a question about the song/artist, or any other random thoughts.  Skyebug just posted a comment on the "song stuck in my head" thread about whether there should be a law against playing Mili Vinilli, and it prompted me to start this as my first ever self-originated thread.

I'll start it off by commenting on a song played a few songs ago - Don Johnson's "Can't Take Your Memory".  I'd never heard it until hearing it here, and I find myself really liking the song, except for the glaring fact that it is Don Johnson who is singing it!    We need to find someone to remake that song, someone who could do it justice!

This is a great idea for a thread!

I always love to see what people think about the music.  It's fun to see how differently two people can view a song!

We hear Jane's Getting Serious at least twice a day.  I don't mind the song, but I never thought it was all that great either.  Does someone keep requesting it, or is it on a rotating playlist?

MzHartz,

EVERYTHING you hear from about 7 AM to 7 PM is by request.

The regular playlist only kicks in when there are no requests lined up, and that VERY RARELY happens.  When it does it's usually only for a song or two.

So someone out there loves that song.

But don't worry, I've been at this long enough to know that in a month or so you won't hear it much at all again.  People get into a rut where they want to hear something over and over, but then they eventually get tired of it too.

It's kind of funny, because most people don't like repetition in radio, yet almost EVERYONE requests the same basic group of songs each day.

In fact, just looking at the four songs currently lined up for request, all of them have been played atleast once each day this week during the work hours.

Every once in awhile I'll throw something in there just to change it up a bit, something I know is never requested.

Haha... I thought maybe your idea of this thread was going to be in response to my request for that Bob's song for the I Married a Weatherman... I'd never heard it before, but someone in my office IS married to a weatherman so I had to see if it was something she'd get a kick out of.

I agree about the Jane song, I was wondering what was going on with that. You're right Jeremy - there are a couple songs I routinely select because of the beat - for anyone who's tired of Steeler's Wheel, sorry 'bout that.

I've noticed the repetition with requests some too, and I'm guilty of it myself I'm sure, but that's why I frequently try to find songs that haven't been requested much to request - but that I also like of course!

I agree and was thinking the exact same thing about the Jane's Getting Serious song MzHartz, but then I always figure that that person has to sit through my requests too, so it's ok!

Ok, here's exactly the kind of song I made this thread for.  Right now we're playing Goodbye by Night Ranger.  I really like this song, but I always think when I hear it that it would be so much better if it were slightly slower, and if they PAUSED a little longer at key points in the song.  They sound like they're in a hurry to get the song over with for some reason.  It's still a good song though.

Hey Murscclub,

You're in LUCK!  We have the technology to slow down or speed up a song WITHOUT CHANGING THE SINGERS TONE!  I dont' know how it's done, but it works amazingly well.  There's a few songs that I play slightly faster to make them peppier.

It's so wierd though, because you would NEVER know it, I can turn a 3 minute song into a 2:30 song and you probably wouldn't notice a different.  It's freaky.

So, next Monday, when I know you're listening, we'll try it slightly slowed down and see how it sounds.

I love that song too, because it's one of the few I feel that I can sing and sound pretty good doing it.  While it was playing I was singing full-out here in the studio :)

I am sure I am one of those that requests annoying songs sometimes....

But there are songs I hear that either I don't like, or never heard before-and that is good!

Question-Does Jeremy know who requests what?  Maybe he should not answer that!

The power of parody.... any time I hear We Are The World, i think of the Simpsons now, go figure...

anyone recall the episode where Bart's radio fall sin a well and he poses as a kid stuck there - anyone recall the 80's singer who digs for the rescue??

Hey, I have a double request.  I've always wanted to hear the song that goes, "I always feel like somebody's watching me," followed directly by the Police's, "Every Step You Take."  But I think if I requested both that they wouldn't be played back to back.  Can you do that for me?

Ok,

Hopefully Zim & MzHartz are still tuned in, I just played the Simpsons bit, and Rockwell/The Police will play back to back after the Flock Of Seagulls song.

I like this thread.  I know that I have mentioned a few times about songs that I just heard.  Like the one by William Shatner.  AHHHHHH.

On that note, I think the station just went off the air.  I can't seem to get it back on.  Hopefully its only temporary.

An American Tale was one of my favorite movies as a kid!  I remember carrying a Fiefel backpack and singing Somewhere Out There...

Okay, I'm going to make a confession....I request the Don Johnson song "Can't Take Your Memory". I don't know why but I love that song...I think it has to do with my boyfriend in high school actually bought his album. You know a very wedding singer kind of love affair with Miami Vice. I hate the "Heart Beat" song so I was excited to be able to just get this one. You know flash backs to the good ol' days!

I'm not a big fan of the Jane's Getting Serious either but you've got to take the good with the bad sometimes, though bad is realitive when you've got songs by William Shatner!

I feel like I just came out of confessional....whoa...I think I need to say a few Hail Mary's to atone for my Don Johnson sins!

When I am at home and tuned in during the evening, I usually will request some WHO, Rolling Stones, and/or some U2, depending upon the request limit. I think its good to get a block of good old fashion classic rock in there between Ton Loc and Lisa Lisa!

Ok, time to fess up.  Who just requested "Jane's Getting Serious"!!!

Actually, I'm not trying to discourage anyone from requesting anything as much as they want.  It's just become a bit of an intriguing mystery as to who is requesting this song!

Sunglasses at Night should be my theme song.  Did someone request it due to my comments in another thread?  OK, I know I have a sunglasses problem...

It was me MzHartz that requested "Sunglasses at Night" but it wasnt because of your collection, it should have been though now you mention it!

I just love that song! got into it as its on the GTA Vice City Soundtrack.

Yet another reason I desperately need a Playstation!  I love that game and often get a little too giddy taking out my frustrations on innocent people.  I hadn't heard that song on it, but the people I play with usually listen to a different type of music than what I like.

I have the box set of music from the game, theres some great tracks on there.

I know what you mean though, I become a bit of a lunatic with a gun, when I play the GTA games, San Andreas is great, but the soundtrack isnt as good as Vice City, im not as into the 90's stuff!

I too don't like to hear songs over played. ie Jane's getting serious

But Sweet Home Alabama is getting over played, too.  I used to like that song!

Hey guys,

I too have noticed the repetition starting to set in, and it's only going to get worse when I can't be here to throw in some music now and then.

Right now I'm looking at the cue and the 25 requests that are lined up are almost all songs I saw in there yesterday.

Here's a radical thought.  Should I try one of these things...

A)  Lower the request limit to ONE

or

B)  Lower the request limit to ONE but cut the time limit to 15 MINUTES

What are your thoughts?

Maybe it would help, or maybe it would be something that makes people decide not to listen at all.  What do you think?

I have thought about this the last couple of days and have been requesting songs that I have never heard before, or for a long time.

If need be I would go for the second option.

If you could only select one song you may be more selective.  Just a thought.

I too like the second option.
