Mrs Web has the day off (bank closed for MLK) so she's enjoying a sleep in. I came on out to the office so I wouldn't bother her.
We have our tax accountant appointment today at 1:00pm. I think I just need to print out the profit/loss reports on both businesses and then I should be ready to go. We were finally able to close all the books on my mother-in-law's estate stuff so after this tax season, we will be done with her stuff.
oh hello. I'd normally have to go to my 2nd job this evening, but even that department keeps bankers hours. So they want me to come in tomorrow instead.

Good morning. I woke up at my normal time this morning, so I got ready and went grocery shopping, then came home and got the laundry done. Now I have the rest of the day to goof off.
I had the doctor's appointment with the allergist this morning. Next week I have to go in for yet another allergy test. Although my wallet is taking a huge beating, I am glad I went in to see this allergist. It turns out that the doctor I saw before really only did half of what he was supposed to. He pretty much just tested me and medicated me, told me to avoid the stuff I'm allergic to. But this doctor said that even with the blood test, there's false positives. So if there's good news to all of this, I might not be allergic to all the things I thought I was.
Everyone, cross your fingers for me that I'm not allergic to corn after all.
Morning all. I decided to enjoy a sleep in too. Did my grocery shopping yesterday. I should go out and try to get my hair trimmed today but not sure if I really feel like getting out. I need to do some laundry and take care of a few things around the house. Guess I need to wake up a bit before I go deciding on my day.
Mz, I hope you learn that you are not as allergic as you were previously told.
JD... enjoy your Monday evening off.
DS... Hope your day gets better for you.
Oh yeah... for you Twitter and cell phone users out there, tomorrow may be a rough day. The mass calling /texting event that will occur in the Washington, DC, area tomorrow will likely severely tax all of the phone carriers. Just warning you now.

But isn't that really an on-call that you can't do anything about? If the system is swamped/taxed there isn't much you can do is there? Unless you are keeping some secret power source or wider network somewhere.

There is very little we can do about mass calling events in progress. In preparation for this event, all of the carriers have been trucking in auxillary cell sites and attempting to augment capacity where possible. About the only other adjustment that can be made on the fly is to restrict certain circuits or bandwidth to only carry traffic in one direction. The problem with this event is that we have utterly no idea of the actual scope of it. Estimates are that there will be somewhere between 1.2 and 5 million extra people in the 7 square miles that is the DC area tomorrow. That's a lot of text messages, phone calls, and picture mails all in one place.
On the up side, the telecommunications industry as a whole has a lot of protections in place for when these events occur. We learned a LOT from the first mass calling event in telecom history... the day JFK was shot. We have made it much more difficult to crash the national phone system.
The big 3 carriers will likely experience blocking, but not really any equipment crashes. Some of the smaller carriers may not be so lucky. I know of one phone company that was caught completely flat footed by every American Idol calling event for two solid months. They really had no idea why all of their switches were crashing at the same time 2 nights a week for 8 consecutive weeks. I couldn't tell you if they have an idea of what might happen to them tomorrow, but I bet I will hear pretty quick.
