Dreams

Hey!

Got any odd (not erotic or potentially offending) dreams that you'd care to share with us?

I had one last night where I went to a church (after a number of decades) just to be alone, and meditate etc, to step out of the husle and bustle of the outside world. So I am sitting there, thinking about my past, how ornate the church is etc, and all these people start filing in and disturbing me- "Hey this guy is new here, is he new!?!? Hey are you new here etc, do you want to contribute to the fund-raiser, do you know about the fund-raiser, I don't think he knows about the fund-raiser. So and so usually sits where you are sitting, do you know that? I don't think he knows that...." I got so mad I stormed out of the church. It was as anoying as being caught in a long line at the grocery store.

Hm, does that say something about what you think of modern churches?  Speaking of, has anyone ever noticed that churches are always open in the movies, but they're usually closed (unless they are having services) in real life?

My thesis paper in college was about the Freudian and Jungian ways of looking at dreaming and the subconcious, so I always automatically revert to, "what is this dream telling me?"

You're right, that's a sad indication of modern times.

When I was a kid our church WAS always open.

I had a dream last night where I was at a party and David Bowie showed up.  Nobody harassed him or anything, and he kinda just made the rounds talking to everyone at the party.  I remember that I kept trying to get his attention without acting like an idiot, but he just wouldn't come over and talk to me, and every time I went to talk to him, by time I got over there, he was somewhere else.  The major event at the party was this indoor mountain climbing bunjee jumping thing, where you have to climb on this series of pillars until you get to the top one, and then you jump from it.  I did it very well and was hoping I would impress him enough to talk to me.  Then I finally gave up and decided to go home.  So I got in my car and he was sitting in the passenger's seat!  I turned on the radio and we drove around listening to music and talking.

It was a very enjoyable dream.  I wish I wouldn't have woke up from that one.

wow!

that seems like something bowie would pull! Was lucky enough to see him on the last tour from good seats, and, perhaps it has something to do with age, but he genuinely seemed as if he would be approachable- like all his weirdness was left behind 20-25 yrs ago, and he just wanted to hit the stage and rock out to have fun.

Also, when he was in Milwaukee for the glass spider tour in 1989, I had a buddy who used to drive a horse and carriage downtown. He said he was waiting outside one of the hotels, when david bowie came out and petted & nuzzled his horse before getting in his limo.

I have some wierd dreams, well there not really dreams, there known as Night Terrors, where I see things in the room while in an early state of sleep, I dont normally know what it is exactly in the room, just that its trying to get me, but sometimes I do know what it is, once there was a Tiger on top of my wardrobe, which sounds funny but when you think its real its pretty scary. I dont know when I started getting them and didnt know what they where at first but after doing a bit of resaerch have found out about them, I thought I was going mad at first but its a medical condition apparently. I dont get them every night but generally there is at least one or two a week.

Excellent, Ultimo! I periodically have the same thing! Something trying to get me while I sleep, but it was a semi-conscious sleep that I could not tell if it was real or not. (The cold-sweat and shaking would see to indicate it was real enough!!!) thanks for the good website link!

I will never forget this- one day years ago I was sleeping, and felt that something was floating or hovering over the bed, and I couldn't move or wake up to fight it off. When I finally did wake up, the window shade at that instance flew up (going flap! flap! flap! flap!). That freaked me out but good.

My kids both had night terrors.  It was awful.  My daughter is particularly loud and she would scream at the top of her lungs.  It's a wonder my hair is not white.  My son grew out of it around the age of 8, but he still has to go to sleep with the television or the radio on.  He gets freaked out if there isn't any noise in the room.  My daughter's have lessened considerably, but every now and then, she has them.  We live in my grandparent's old house (my grandpa died about 3 1/2 years ago) and she swears she sees him every now and then.  It's kind of freaky.

I have had a dream before that my husband was cheating on me and it was so real that I kicked him in the middle of the night, woke up the  next morning and was looking through the phone book for a good attorney.  I was still so mad at him.  He was baffled.  I finally realized it was a dream, but that feeling in the pit of my stomach was awful.  That sealed it for me right then and there, never would I do that to someone, especially someone that I love.

I'm a big Bowie fan.  I absolutely love his Reality album!  I know a lot of people who claim to be Bowie fans who don't listen to any of his new stuff.  I have never been to one of his concerts though, he happens to always come to Indianapolis when I'm broke!  He seems like one of those people that would be cool to just hang with.

At any rate, I went to a party last night with a bunch of musicians, and it's not surprising that I had a dream with Bowie in it, so I know exactly where that came from.  Now the bungee mountain climbing thing baffles me.

My ex boyfriend had a problem with sleep walking and sleep paralysis, and my husband has a lot of nightmares, but I seem to be a pretty pleasant sleeper.  I dream a lot though, but they are usually pretty tame.  Every once in a while, right when I'm on the verge of going to sleep, I'll feel like I'm falling.  I don't know if that falls under night terrors or not though.

I have been fighting this viral infection the past two days and I have been doing alot of sleeping.  I have been having some weird dreams.  I dreamt that my wife had another daughter and she had Down Syndrome but the press wanted to make a movie about her because she was the first DS baby with blond hair.  My other two kids have blond hair.  Not sure what that one was about but my wife isn't expecting either.  One of the other ones that I had since yesterday was that I was running up all these flights of stairs but the stairs weren't very wide and there were hundreds of them and I kept going up and up and up.

I am finally feeling better and so I will see what tonight brings to me.

I had a dream recently where my seven year old daughter was goofing around and pretending to choke me - you know, like Homer does to Bart all the time. Only, when I told her that was enough, she wouldn't stop. And I couldn't breathe and after remaining as calm as possible, I finally started completely freaking out. That panic was enough to wake me from the dream... It's a good thing too - apparently my overweight cat had been lying across my neck.

Can you imagine?!? In my dream I didn't want to panic, for fear of hurting my daughter's feelings or traumatizing her in some way... If I had waited too long and passed out or something, who would have ever guess it had been the Cat in the Living Room with the Rotund Stomach?!? I'd like to see CSI solve THAT one!

Wow, I had a weird dream last night.  In part of it I was living with a bunch of other people in this huge house in the mountains of Colorado.  And then, I'm talking to my great grandmother on the phone (the one that died before I was born), and I'm in Kansas sitting at the bottom of a hill next to a road (the road was higher up than I was).  I see this huge silo, and it appears to keep coming closer to me.  As it gets closer, I realize it's caught up in the middle of a tornado and I have no time to seek shelter.  So, I grab the silo and hold on for dear life until the tornado passes.  I keep worrying that my grandma will be mad at me because I got myself caught in the tornado, but then I know that if I let her know I was talking to my great-grandma, it'll be okay.  The tornado passed, and I was worried that it would come back around when I woke up.

My weird dreams continue:

Last night I had a dream that I was back in high school riding the bus to school on a very dark and rainy day. We crossed over the bridge to the school when the bus driver lost control of the bus. The bus flipped over several times, both on it's side and from end to end, and I was pretty bruised up and got a concussion but lived through it.

I keep having dreams that I'm living through life threatening situations, I hope I'm not predicting the future... (Then again, if I'm in a life threatening situation, I hope I come through it unharmed...)

What are you eating or drinking before going to bed?  That may be affecting your dreams.  Since this thread started I haven't had any dreams I can remember.  Maybe I should have something spicy or fix a good stiff drink!!!

Ray, If I have to take night time cold medicine that usually does the trick for the wierd dreams.

I did have a nightcap last night (warm cider with some brandy, you can't beat it!), but I didn't have anything before I went to bed for the other dream.  I'm a pretty heavy dreamer, though.

Ever experience lucid dreaming? I thought it was a joke, but went ahead and tried what they suggested (apparently looking at a digital watch in a dream won't give you a real time). So you spend all day taking intervals looking at a watch - they your mind starts doing it in your dream and not being able to read the time, you're supposed to realize your dreaming. Well, it works for me, not often, but when it does it's incredible! Leaping up through walls and into the sky seems to be my favorite thing to do once I figure out I'm dreaming.

Okay, now that you all think I'm nuts...

Zim,

That's interesting you mention that.  I've had that happen a couple of times.  However, I didn't do anything other than tell myself the situations I was in were ridiculous.  I remember the dreams taking another direction but nothing to the extent of taking control.

It is fun! I wouldn't recommend it to people who use recreational mind altering drugs, I think if you tried a few dream cues in real life while under the influence you might really think you could fly!

The most difficult thing is once you realize you're dreaming, not to get all excited and wake up. That takes practice - but I read somewhere that if you do something repeatedly throughout the day, like glance at your watch and deliberately concentrate on it, then your mind will start doing it in dreams, and it just won't look right. Then you can deduce it's a dream and go from there. Hope it works for you guys interested, there is all kinds of info on the Net about it with how to's for starters/

Once I realize I'm dreaming, I have a hard time staying in the dream, I usually wake up.

And my weird dreams continue.  Last night I had a dream that I was attacked by these bugs that look like a cross between mini scorpions and centapedes, and they had these long mouth stingers that they would use to tap into an artery and start sucking my blood (like something from Star Trek!).  I tried screming for help, but I was crying so hard I couldn't scream (and well, you can never scream in your dreams,), so I finally got my mom's attention (apparently I was still iving at home).  She pulled all the bugs off one by one and I was left all bloody.  There was one bug left that I had to pull off of my ankle myself, and that was the hardest thing to do.  I'm usually not scared of bugs, but that dream creeped me out.

I had a dream last night I just can't shake, so I thought I would share it.

My hubby and I went to this game thing where we had to play a whole bunch of games. We were part of a big group that included a couple of our friends and Orlando Bloom and his girlfriend. The games were big group games, and it was in this huge warehouse. We'd play one game, then continue on to the next point and play the next. There was one game that involved a mask, lanes, and some sort of basketball type thing that none of us liked, but we were forced to play it anyway. During all the games, we because really good friends with Orlando Bloom. On the second round of games, the 6 of us snuck out during the game we didn't like and went over to someone's house who was having a party. Orlando's girlfriend was a pretty thing that thought she was a queen. She planted herself on the couch and kept ordering Orlando around. And he obeyed her completely. I remembered hating her for treating him like that, and just for being a total snob. She drank a lot and ended up passing out on the couch. By this time, a lot of the other people were gone, but the couple friends we were with, my hubby and I sat around talking with Orlando and having a good time. We all ended up falling asleep on the floor. In the morning, Orlando was the first to wake up, and for some reason he had gone out and picked up his ex and brought her back to meet his current girlfriend. When he brought his ex in, I just kept thinking, "This is a bad idea." She was totally different from his current girlfriend, she was very smart, modest, and pretty in a smart girl way. She had long brown hair in a ponytail, stylish glasses, and was wearing a pleated skirt. After she basically just said, "Nice to meet you," to the current girlfriend, and came over and talked to us instead. She was really nice, and I thought she was perfect for Orlando and didn't understand why they split up and why he was dating the snob.

Unfortunately, in the company that was in that dream, I was at least behind two other people! But it was a very good dream. He was a really nice guy. Laid back, pretty normal. Still totally sexy.
