My Band, Late Night Drive has recently undergone another change...
One of the original members, my guitar player, John, has decided to leave the band. He let us know last week.
Now we start in earnest to look for another player. I am not sure which direction to go. My first inclination is to go the guitar player route, but I am also exploring keyboard players as well.
I usually play rhythm guitar because it is easier to sing and play rhythm. But I am thinking I could also play lead in spots and a keyboard presence would really be interesting to explore.
The focus for 2009 is to add another musician and finally finsh our studio work...I am hoping it doesnt take as long as Chinese Democracy to finish.
Some of you might be familiar with recordings we had JR play from our first studio work several years ago...
either way...if this were a poll, would you opt for a guitar player or a keyboard player?
Hmm... interesting question. Wouldn't it more or less depend on the song? It would be kind of cool if you had both... the keyboard would probably enhance some of the songs.

I'd go with a guitar player if you can only add one person. Gotta have a lead guitar in most songs I would think. But I'm partial to guitar players, so my opinion is slightly biased.
Ghost voted Guitar player. Need I say anymore? CLEARLY keyboardist is the way to go
Keyboards are great IF you have a lead guitar and a bass player. D plays rhythm which rounds out the bass and lead. But if he's going for a techno sound, then yeah, they can make do without lead guitar.
So since your songs were written with the band as previously configured in mind, wouldn't it be easier to stay true to the LND sound with a new lead guitar player? Just a thought... but if you wanted to change the sound then a keyboard would be a way to go. Honestly, my vote is "both", but Ghost is probably right.
Just for giggles there are a couple of them I'd like to hear played on a keyboard or piano.

If I played a real guitar instead of those plastic ones in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I'd audition. I burn up the frets in the video games.
You scare me GD, I can picture you going off on a speed metal solo during a ballad.
Too bad I've discovered so late in life how much fun "playing a guitar" can be. I should've started with a real one way back when I was a teenager. I think I might have missed my true calling.
I'm still seriously thinking of borrowing my daughter's bass and going for some lessons. I know I'm an old dog, but I think I can still learn some new tricks. Besides, it's just sitting in a corner in that disaster area she calls her room.......I bet she wouldn't even notice it was gone.
I was 38 the first time I played a bass note. You can do it!
Actually, given the style of music you guys play, or at least what I've heard here on FFR, I would vote keyboard. A nice keyboard under the right fingers can do a lot. Just tell them to keep their left hand out of my bass zone.
Paul Baloche has an EXCELLENT dvd that is good for about any band, worship band or not. There are few clips of it on CCLITV.
Just go to: http://www.ccli.com/CCLITV/ Search for "Baloche" and then look for the "Playing Less/Listening" clip. It is really good.
Hey! We're college girls that Loooooooooooooooooooooooove LND.
We can barely keep ourselves from throwing ourselves at the band when they play. We all were talking and we think a keyboardist would probably be what put us over the edge. Heck, if LND had keyboards we'd probably just show up at the concerts naked!
BTW, thanks to Jeremy for letting us use his account!
Hi. We're friends of Ghost's. We're also fans of Def Leppard. You remember hearing about the wild things that happened backstage after their concerts?? You pick a lead guitar player, and we promise to recreate those moments with LND!!!
