A Question for Mema

You may not know the answer to this, but then considering you work for a cell phone provider, you just might.

I was watching Fox News last night and they had a guy on who claimed that if your cell phone bill has any error on it and you catch it within 14 days of arrival you are legally entitled to get out of your contract with that carrier free of any penalties.

Have you ever heard that?  It sounds crazy, but it was on the news.

I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet that is some BS unless this is some sort of new law in your state. Your cell phone contract will have some provisions for arbitration. That usually doesn't include a free out to your contract just because of a billing error.

Yeah, it seems too good to be true. Particularly since it was for any error at all.

I just would hope our local Fox affiliate would do their homework before giving out some crazy info like that.

I'd think that possibly you might have an out if it is a significant error that you went through the appropriate channels to resolve. At that I think it would be hard to get out of the early termination fee. Technically that is your out to the contract... it just costs you some money.

Well, in doing some research on this online I found NOTHING. So I really think it's BS.

I did find a few OTHER ways that sound logical, but not that one.

Yeah, billing mistakes happen so I have a very hard time seeing that as a means of getting out of the contract.

How about getting out of your contract because studies show that keeping your cell phone mounted on your belt causes low sperm count.

just fyi
