If you are referring to the "Conficker" worm, this one is real. Its been around a long time.
The security experts say that they can see a timer that is supposed to do "something" today, but they didn't know exactly what. I haven't heard yet if they know what that payload is now or if its done anything yet.
I wonder if the people who developed it actually have it out there but it won't actually do anything today. You know, keep everyone in suspense. Kind of like their April Fool's joke.
Our IT group was updating servers and software yesterday in anticipation.

I think I might have had that when my computer crashed last week. There were lots of things showing up in System32 files when I did a scan just before it took my computer down. I'm clean now, thanks to formatting the hard drive....even if it was a huge pain in the rear to do.
They did a story on this on 60 Minutes this weekend. Scared the heck out of me. I uninstalled Computer Associates Anti-Virus which was not working properly since I got Windows Vista and downloaded McAfee instead.
