Starting a New Adventure

I mentioned this on my blog, but I was kind of vague so no one would know until I got things firmed up.  But I really want to talk to someone about it, so I thought I'd announce it here.

I'm going back to college to (eventually) study marine biology.

I love my job, but the owners will be reaching retirement age soon, and I don't think this company will be around forever.  The next logical step for me would be starting my own business or running or buying this one, and I don't want to do that.

I also don't want to live in Indiana forever.  I want to live on a coast, I always have, and that's always been our dream.

In school, there were 3 professions I was interested in: Graphic Designer, Veterinarian, and Teacher.  I also like doing charitable things.

So what I really ultimately want to do is work for an aquarium rescuing marine animals, rehabilitating them, releasing the ones who can go back into the wild, and teaching the public about them so less need rescued.  I also think with my design background, I would be very useful for an aquarium to design habitats.

I'm excited, and just need to talk to someone about it.  I've been trying to get an appointment with an advisor at IU to get the ball rolling.

I think this is exciting news MZ! Great plan too. It sounds very "you"...
You love animals, have a big heart, love to share information, very creative...  nod.gif

Aw gee, Mz knows what she wants to be when she grows up. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up (besides weathly of course).

Don't worry Fuzzy, I have another friend with a similar thought.  When I told her I was going to go back to school to change careers, her comment was, "You're working on career #2, and I haven't even got a first one yet."

Yeah, I don't this the salary for what I want to do is any more than a graphic designer, but I'd be motivated to do something like this even if when I win the lottery.  Actually, I was going through the typical 'what would I do if I won the lottery' scenario when I came up with the idea.  If I would do it for free, why shouldn't I go to school so I can get paid for it?

And it'll be a bit more fulfilling than graphic design.  There's not many opportunities to design something that'll change the world.

Best of luck!
If you love what you are studying and have a clear vision of what you want, you can't help but to succeed with flying colors.smile

Congrats, Mz!  Figuring out what you want to do is the hard part.  After that, it's all gravy! biggrin
