And My Grilled Cheese restaurant is now closed

Money manager closes Cheesy Grill restaurant

Jun. 8, 2009 11:28 a.m. | A Milwaukee money manager who took a detour into restaurant ownership has returned to the investment world.

John O'Hare and his wife, Penny, closed their Cheesy Grill restaurant last week, citing a bad economy. O'Hare is now working as a wealth manager in the Milwaukee office of JPMorgan Private Wealth Management.

The O'Hares opened the Cheesy Grill in February 2008 after his bosses at Oppenheimer in New York said they wanted him to move to the east coast to continue managing the Oppenheimer Mid Cap Fund, instead of running it from Milwaukee. The restaurant, in a strip mall south of Miller Park, specialized in tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Its signature sandwich was the cheesy Joe - a grilled cheese filled with sloppy Joe mix.

"It's not a Big Mac or a Whopper, but we created a sandwich," O'Hare said in an interview with the Journal Sentinel when the restaurant opened.

I think if I searched the forum I called this when it first opened no.gif

I'm no genius, but a place that bills itself as a grilled cheese restaurant can't possibly do all that well. My first thought when I heard about it was "why the hell would I pay a premium price for something so easy to make at home".

I'm sure their menu had variations (like the Cheesy Joe) that made it a better value, but the name and concept just didn't inspire me to pull over and try em' out.

The poor guy probably had visions of his simple idea taking off and thought he'd become a millionaire from the franchising rights. Sorry. NO SOUP FOR YOU!

BTW, sorry JD. I know you liked the place. I kind of wish I'd have tried it at least once now.

aw it  was convenient when i couldn't think of anything else i wanted to eat, but really it was quiet absurd. they always seemed to be hopping tho, so their money problems must have really been bad.
