Fresh rumors abound that Bret Favre will sign with the Vikings TODAY. Apparently a private plane with a Vikings logo on it was spotted leaving the airport in Hattiesburgh, MS this morning and a "high level source" in the Vikings organization tipped WCCO- Minneapolis reporter Mark Rosen that the deal will go down today.
Really now... I know he was a great quarterback for Green Bay, but isn't enough ENUFF?

lol. I almost posted the Journal-Sentinal story on this about an hour ago but decided not to. I figured everyone was so sick of ol' Brett they might take it out on me.
I can't believe what an idiot this guy is being.
After he said no to the Vikings a couple players came out and basically said "GOOD! We don't need him, we don't want him. He'd just disrupt the chemistry of this team".
Now he's thinking about going back. He won't quit until someone injures him or the league rules prevent him from using his walker on the field.
Go away Brett! I used to love you. Now you make me sad inside.
HAHAHAHA! Oh, I figured that someone might jump my case for posting this. It's okay. I'm a big girl... I can take it.
I HAD a lot of respect for ol' Brett. Not so much anymore. This lacks so much dignity it isn't even funny. To me it is pretty much a slap in the face to all of the Green Bay fans who cheered him on for all those years.

That is why this is all so pathetic in my point of view. If he thinks that he is fooling anyone that his waffeling has anything to do with his love of the game, he is kidding himself. The man is turning himself into a national joke over whatever sour grapes he has for the Packer's organization.
Coulda gone out a hero... totally gonna be a zero.

that's the saddest thing. He OWNED this state. We loved him more than any sport star that came before or likely would have come after.
He was a throw-back. A gunslinger. Yeah he would make some stupid plays but we loved his spirit and his desire to win.
Never in a million years would I have expected this ending for him. I think that's why it hurts Packer fans so much. We feel like we fell for his act. We were gullible and believed he was the man we thought he was. Now we realize it's always been all about him and his "aww shucks" country bumpkin routine was just an act.
Very disappointing. Guess it's just further evidence why our REAL heroes should be the unsung ones. The ones that toil in near anonymity to make the world a better place. Not some overpaid sports star that's biggest concern is their next endorsement deal.
And the best case scenario for him would be to play every quarter of every game this season, beat Green Bay, and carry the Vikings to the Superbowl and win that too just so he can say, "Tolja so! Take THAT!". Odds of all that lining up for him at his age are about slim and none.
Worst case scenario is he loses a humiliating defeat to Green Bay or doesn't even get the starting position, doesn't have a winning season with the Vikings, and takes a daily beating in the press about being the prima donna who was too good to show up for training camp or associate with anyone on the team. Or blows out his elbow again in the first game he plays.
Either way, his reputation is forever tarnished. Soon as he puts on the Vikings jersey he can forget any good will from the Packers fans. Assuming he ever makes it to the Hall of Fame, he's going to have a hard sell getting the Packers fans to embrace him in that light.
As for the Jets and the Vikings, it is a shame that they didn't learn the lesson from the Chiefs and Joe Montana... can't buy a Superbowl on the back of an aging QB regardless of how good he may have been before.

With Favre, I honestly believe we all would have forgotten about the year with the Jets. Most people feel Brett was treated unfairly and never appreciated by Thompson when he arrived here. You got the sense from day one that Thompson didn't want Favre around because he wanted to put his own stamp on the team.
As a result, a lot of people (myself included) sided with Favre and rooted for him to do well with the Jets.
But now it's personal. This is a hated division rival. The only team that would be worse is if he'd signed with the Bears. Now I seriously question if he'll ever be well received in this state again.
Excerpt from the updated story on the MSNBC website:
Several media outlets reported that Favre has agreed to a one-year deal worth around $12 million. Favre will start Friday night in the Vikings' exhibition, ESPN reported.
ESPN also reported that Favre has a slightly torn rotator cuff, discovered by Dr. James Andrews several weeks ago.
So he plays for them, shells out his throwing arm from either injury, fades out before the season is over, and retires again. What next? At least Joe Montana had the fortune of mercy to be "traded" back to San Francisco to retire with the team he was synonimous with. Somehow I don't see this happening for Favre. Who wants a 41 yr old QB who's arm is shot?

ESPN is showing his tearful retirement from Green Bay. Then they showed him telling them only four months ago that he ABSOLUTELY will never play professional football again.
They pointed out he's retired twice in 11 months without missing a single game.
Too bad the only time the Chiefs play the Vikings this year is in this weekend's pre-season game and it is in Minnesota. I'd love to be there holding a sign that says "Please make it stop!".

I will state once again, just because you can play doesn't mean you should. He obviously isn't playing for the love of the game. It is for the love of the money. He apparentyl doesn't have anything better to do. Sad really.
Who wants a quarterback with a torn rotator cuff? Surely there has to be a better option for the Vikings than a quarter back who can't make up his mind, is too good to practice in the summer heat and would actually go to a division rival. If I were a Packer fan I would be disappointed too.
I think he ruined his rep last year with all the nonsense.

I watched Favre's last game against the Giants in the 2007 NFC Championship game. It was below zero and Favre was the premier cold weather QB. At one point he was 32-0 when games were below freezing. Well the last several years in Green Bay his cold weather effectiveness was lost. Against the Giants that day, he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but out in -10 degree temps. Eli Manning was playing in the same weather and had a good game. Favre didnt play well at all.
I think it was that day that Ted Thompson, the Packers GM, decided the Packers needed to move on if they were going to play at a higher level late in the year and deep into the play offs. The last several seasons in GB, Favre would wait to see if he wanted to play the following season well into April and May. I think when Favre retired in 2007, Thompson felt he was avoiding an unpleasant PR scene and the uncertainty of the decision every year of whether Favre would play or not.
I sincerely think Favre felt tired and emotionally drained after the 2007 season and when pressed for a decision on his 2008 plans, his knee jerk reaction was to retire. He got the itch to play as training camp approached and felt Green Bay would scratch that itch...well the team had moved on.
Suddenly he didnt have a team to play for or a team catering to his notion that he was "the man" for the team. His decision to retire precipitated giving this status up. The Vikings want Favre and are a decent team. I think Favre playing with the realization this is his last year will allow him to get closure.
I believe Favre still loves the game. Maybe his motives at one point to continue playing would be revenge against his old club. I just think if he feels he can play at a high level and wants to have one last rodeo. I wish him well, just not twice a year.
My sixteen year man-crush on Favre must indeed be over because right now I wanna cram that damn beat up old red cap down his selfish throat.
Seriously, what's with the cap. Did his Dad give it to him or something? Or is it just more of his "Aww look what a normal guy" routine? He's worn that thing as long as I can remember and it looks like when he's not wearing it he's storing it under a pile at the city dump.
Maybe he does. After he gets the tar kicked out of him this season he will once again waiver on retirement. Then he'll come back and say he is playing.

Thats just it M, he had a 10 year, 100 million dollar contract with Green bay and every year for at least the last 4 seasons in Green bay he would take well into the off season to decide if he wanted to play the following year.
Lets put this all in perspective....to be a QB on an NFL club there is alot of film work and mental preparation...the mental pressure I would imagine must wear on a person. After 16 years of it, even though it may be a game he loved...I imagine it took its toll. It probably isnt something you want to go into half hearted. It requires full dedication. So it probably took longer to recharge the mental batteries.
Lets also keep in mind that the Packers DID NOT WANT FAVRE BACK. If he still wanted to play and they didnt want him, then I dont begrudge him for wanting to still play. If he still enjoys the game and can play at a high level, then play on man. Lets judge his play on the field. Even at 39 I wouldnt want to bet against him.
As I have said, I wouldnt have cjosen the Vikes as his team to continue his playing career with...but I am still glad to have a season or two more to watch him play. The people bashing him must have forgotten what it was like to see someone play with a child like enthusiasm for the game. He still brings that.
