Soundcard Fail

Well.  My stupid "low profile" computer apparantly has no additional power sources inside of it so the new sound card doesn't work.

I think that's it folks tears.gif  I just can't keep wasting money trying to resolve this situation.  I considered picking up a cheap, used computer with XP and a different sound card in it.  But besides the cost I don't know that I have the energy to transfer all the station software again and deal with the headache of setting it all up.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY was starting to want this to work.  I was enjoying the new web site and thought that it would be a lot of fun to start getting on the air again.  But unless I have a change of heart in the next few days I think we'll be pulling the plug in late September or early October, depending on when the monthly streaming fee's are due.

The sound card needs a separate power supply?

You can get cheap power splitter cables if thats all it needs.

Well maybe there's still hope then.

I'll have to talk to you via chat about what I'd need.  I'm not sure it would work in my situation.

I hope it would though.  I really don't want to give up yet.

alright,

This is becoming ridiculous, but I've identified two cables that should be able to make the connections we need.

Of course even with those cables I've found there might be problems.

The stupid computer I bought is so small that everything is really crammed in there.  The new card has to be twisted a bit to fit and has so much crap resting against it I'm worried it still won't work when I turn it on.

Besides that I'll have to find SOMEWHERE in here to run over a foot and a half of extra cable without interfering with the fan.

It's not supposed to be this hard. no.gif

looking at that picture it doesn't look so bad. But that box on the left is the fan and the big flat box on the right is the CD ROM drive. That gives a little perspective of how small the CPU is.

Wow, that IS small. The whole thing is only about 3x the DVD drive.

Ya gotta love the resident computer geek! I'm scratching my head going "where's the card?" Is it like a credit card? Birthday card? Playing card?

lol.  Yeah, I suppose not everyone knows what they're looking at there.

The sound card is the long black card that starts at the middle of the bottom of the picture and runs on an angle roughly to the middle of the right hand side of the picture.  It's black and has all kinds of circuitry on it.
