milwaukee accents

JR--thanks for having JD on the air.  I miss the Milwaukee accents.  I have been gone from there so long my accent is gone.

Just for the record, us Milwaukeans do not have accents. Its just that the rest of the country hasnt caught up to us in regards to articulation and annunciation.

Oh, please.

One of the best parts of the IL/WI feud is who is harder to understand.  You folks from 'Sconsin sound just as silly as da boyz from 'ere 'n Chicaaaaaago.

Where's dat graj-key? In'a fronchroom?

Our Milwaukee accent is hilarious to my friends from Ohio.  They crack up when we say "Soooo, ah...".

I crack up at them though, because of the way they say their "ooo's"  like "Honeymoooon".  It's very distinct to Ohio. I've never heard anything like it.

Great place to live, and now with festival season starting...

Ahhh, I love summer in Wisconsin, all 12 days of it.

Actually I'd say 20 days.  10 for Summerfest, 10 for state fair. That's pretty much it.

This place though is honestly one of the greatest places to be in the summer.  The winter..that's a different story.

What are we, like 4th in the country in taxes?

Pretty much so.  WOO HOO MILWAUKEE!!

I've accepted it.  It's the standard.  Though when my aunt comes in from New Jersey, everything is a steal for her here. So..we've got our perks.

FL rocks - no FL state taxes!

And as for a spanish accent?  No way, Jose!  But you're funny.

CP, your accent isnt gone (That is if we actually have accents) its just latent, like malaria.  A few days back home you'll be as good as new.

Star, from Ohio huh? What made you choose Marquette?  How did you like MKE while you were here.  I know you prefer Miami in the winter.

Don't forget my favorite, Festa Italiana.  Maybe there are 20 days to summer.  I love Milwaukee, but cannot take those winters anymore.

CP, there is no shame in running when you are scared.

I probably am too frozen to leave, even in summer.  You are in California?  What area?

I live in the town of La Quinta, the beautiful Coachella Valley of the Desert.  I am about 20 min east of Palm Springs.  Last weekend we got to 115.  Cool down this weekend though, only 105, and don't let anyone kid you.  I have lived in both the heat and humidity of MKE.  I will take the heat any day, but last year when we reached 131 that was just plain hot.  Anything over 115 gets challenging.  My airconditioning bills for June through September are between 500 and 900 a month.  But that's not a lot of difference from your heating bills in the Winter there.

I went to Richards School in Whitefish Bay, then transferred, and went to Nicolet when my parents moved.  I worked at Park East Hotel for years.  I don't know if it is still called that, but we had a lot of celebs stay there because of the proximity to Summerfest Grounds and used to also tend bar at Park Ave.  Those were the days.

Cp, you should post some of those stories.  Bet you have some interesting anecdotes about your brushes with greatness and near greatness.

And I thought Houston was hot in the summer!  Does La Quinta have any humidity?

Believe it or not we do.  There are 145 golf courses in the area and the irrigation creates a high humidity.  Not like Wisconsin where it is in the 70%'s or higher, but we can get up into the low 50%'s.  Even I don't play 18 holes then.  I go out and tee off at 5:30 am and by 9:00 it will be over 100 and I go sit in the club.  I listen to my airconditioner run all night and begin counting, one dollar, two dollars, three dollars.

CP - counting dollars like you counts sheep, wouldn't that keep you up at night?

It does keep me up at night from time to time.  But my wife and I are starting our own business again and I have to cover my first payroll tomorrow--and people that owe me money have not paid yet, so that is the major contributor to keeping me up.

CP - good luck with the payroll. Maybe you should just head out to the money tree and pick a few large bills. That should help you   And you can go back to counting

good luck, CP!  I'll say a prayer for you.  Add this to the prayer thread.  That thread is amazing.  It even made Sparky come back.  Praise God!
