Yeah...I'd love to hear about that too..

I'm more of a NASCAR girl, but there's nothing like Indy..

How cool and poised is Danica Patrick.  She is gonna something before she is done.  Good to have a Wisconsin driver to cheer for.

But did you hear the other drivers were complaining b/c she weighs a lot less, therefore making her car lighter and faster?

Really now...that seems a little ridiculous. I see the other drivers' points, but I don't know if it's fair, unless every car weighs the exact same, with driver and parts...

Then make em weigh in like boxers.  I wrestled in High School and college and I can tell you making weight was no fun.  A season of that, where they are dying for a cheese burger or a beer and then see if they open their pie holes.

Yeah....if they want it all to be fair, everyone has to make a weight of x amount, even if they have to add weight. It's only going to make the cars slower, and then where's the fun in that?

Yea I want to see what Ray has to say about her. I think thats b.s. about complaining about her weight. A.J. Foyt had a big old beer belly as I recall; that didn't stop him from winning a lot. It reminds me of those pro golfers who complained that the one with a bad leg was using a golf cart when the rest had to walk. I think people go to hell for that kind of whining!

I was hoping to spot Ray during the race.  It was cool that we know what he looks like.  Anytime I saw a camera-man I was moving up toward the tv and trying to see if it was him.  I had no luck though.

Darn the parents 27" TV.  I picked the wrong time to visit the folks!

That is crazy about Danica.  I read a story where Robby Gordon, who wasn't even IN THE RACE, and apparantly had not planned on being in the race, said he would never race against her unless they leveled the playing field.

Robby Gordon likes to whine about everything.

He's not my favorite.

Riggs you should have invited the folks to YOUR PLACE with the 542" tv and all. I don't want to rip on ray, cuz my hair is heading in the same direction-but- I bet that white hair would have stuck out clear as day on a screen that big!

LOL,

I was thinking that when I was over there.  I was like "DAMN, I'D FIND HIM ON THE SCREEN AT HOME", but unfortunately I had just got there when the idea to look for him hit me, so it would have been rude to take off.

We should have asked him in advance if he knew where he'd be on the track.

And let me just say, this is one of the coolest things about this forum and the little community we've formed.

It's so neat to know people all over the country that might be involved in all kinds of different things like this.

I agree. It's great that we'll be able to get a first hand experience for something as cool at the 500, and anything else out in the States, even in other countries!

It was a great race this year.  I haven't seen the crowd as into it for years.  Danica was the story.  She showed what she's made of.  I think she has the tools and moxie to be a great driver.  The comeback from the fourth turn incident should have made believers of everyone...this chick can drive!  When she had the lead with 10 laps to go the place was buzzing with excitement and anticipation.  But I didn't think she could keep Dan behind her.

I was really happy for Dan Wheldon.  He is as genuine as you see on TV.  When he was a rookie three years ago he was wide-eyed but very happy and respectful to be at Indy.  he would talk with the public address announcers whenever we asked.  It's a popular win and I hope that and the press about Danica can push open-wheel racing a bit further up in the public eye.  Of course getting both the IRL and Champ car under one governing body would help considerably.

I guess I was on ABC at the end of the race.  I was told I made the broadcast when Dan was pushed to the Victory platform.  I was above the car with all the 500 Princess' and I guess ABC took a shot of all them with me in the middle.  I do have some good pictures.  My favorite is Dan Wheldon's last pit stop.  His pit was just south of the P.A. area.  I took it as he pulled out of the pits and his two rear tire guys pushed him out.  Both of them fell and that is the shot I have.  One is rolling on the ground and the other is rolling off the right rear he just changed.  As soon as my computer will cooperate I'll download them and send them to Jeremy.

For those Patrick Dempsey lovers I did get another picture.  However, it's not as good as last year.  I didn't get the opportunity to get a really good one.  At the 500 banquet he presented the Rookie of the Year award to Danica.

ray - glad u had a good time , looked 4 ya on t.v.  from a fan at homes  pov it was the worse coverage  of a race  i ever saw , 5oo miles of danica this and danica that , and heck i like her , she drives great in traffic, but give it a break, there were others out there, when they spend more time talking to 4th place driver than the winner...more on weight and stuff later , work calls ,  but like i said , glad you had a great time !!

Ray I taped the race, I'll have to see if I can spot you. Did anyone see the Coca Cola race?

I saw parts of the NASCAR race. It went on forever, but what a close finish - half a car length.

I'm all for women racers, and I'm glad Danica did so well, but I was getting kinda sick of hearing about her.  And she's not the first woman driver in the Indy 500.  Whatever happened to Lynn St. James?  She never got the coverage that Danica did.  (But, she wasn't as good of a driver either.)  I'm not up on Indy racing, I'm more of a drag racing fan, but in drag racing you have to weigh the car before each run and meet the minimum weight requirements.  But a lot of women drivers have the problem of competitors thinking their cheating when they do well.

I didn't think Sarah Fisher got a real shot at Indy Car racing.  I thinks she's good driver but never had a program that really got her to the point she needed.  She was the IRL's most popular driver for three years and never got a fair shake in my opinion.

I'll have to watch the tape and see how much Danica was covered.  I didn't get to see much of the broadcast during the race.  I stood in the pits at the start finish line and watched the whole thing.  Great spot and being a fan first it was the place to be.  I should have the same spot for the Brickyard.  F1 they don't let us near the pits.  But that's another story.

Yeah, I was really cheering for Sarah, but at the last 500 I saw her at, she got caught in a crash early in the race.  I felt sorry for her.  But she didn't get the publicity that Danica's getting.  Ray, I don't know about you, but every radio station I turned to before the race (hey, I can't get FFR in the car!), kept going on and on about her.  I suspect she has more money to spend on marketing than Sarah and Lynn had.  She also did a non-race-related photo shoot, and I thought that was kind of tacky.

Danica is a publicity dream come true.  She is good, she is articulate and she's pretty.  I've seen a photo from FHM and she is layed out on a car with a skimpy outfit.  It works for her.  The guys do it to.  I've seen pictures of Helio shirtless showing off his goods.  It's just another way to get exposure.  As Danica said in an interview I saw.  Any publicity is good publicity.  Plus with the press it like a shark at feeding time.  No one wants to be left out.  They all want their bite.

The is also another cutie that may be on the IRL scene next year.  Mishael Abbott finished 12th in the Indy Pro series on Friday.  But she is one that may be on the move.  She said she wanted Danica to do well but not win.  She wants to be the first female to win Indy.

Well I'll tell ya Ray,

I have NEVER been a racing fan.  I just didn't find it interesting.  But Danica got me to watch the Indy 500.

I'm sure that she's going to be responsible for bringing in a boatload of new fans to the sport, much in the way Tiger woods brought in new fans to golf.

Ray- it's great to hear you had another fantastic time at the 500. I too am looking forward to the pic of Patrick Dempsey, regardless of how good it is.
