This Sunday on Jazz 101

Hey!

I will be featuring the tracks that I wanted to feature last week from The Preservation Hall band from New Orleans-

One cd has members on it that we saw when we were at Preservation Hall/ the other is an older recording from the 1964 version of the band with SWEET EMMA on vocals and piano!

If your a jazz fan, you've GOT to hear Sweet Emma sing. She's probably in her late 80's or early 90's on these recordings and its amazing how her naturally sad sounding voice stretches to sound happy.  This band sounds like it came straight out of the 1920's, but recorded with the much more technologically advanced (snicker....how relative) equipment of the 1960's.

It's old-school Dixieland that doesn't sound like it was recorded on one of Edison's original contraptions!

Hope you'll join me Sunday Night!

JD,

Any chance you can play some Wes Montgomery?  Jazz guitar and Jazz with powerful horn arrangements...Two things I really dig about jazz.

Have a great show!

You bet, Dylan- He and Jimmy Smith did an album together that features this weird song I really like called "Death March 13"- but I have plenty of other stuff of his to play too.
