I mean, how on earth can you not notice the child is missing ALL day?
Can you imagine the horror that parent must have gone through at first just thinking their child was somewhere in the building, trying to find her, and then finding out she was dead.
I can't help but think about how the parents must be waking up this morning (if they were able to sleep at all) and thinking it's just a dream, actually a nightmare.
I know, their hearts must be breaking. At some point, I hope they will consider some sort of legal action. For now like you, this has hit me like a ton of bricks. Even though I don't know the parents of that child, I feel the need to do something to show them that there is someone out there that cares. I would like to dedicate a song in memory of that child. Could you pick one that you feel might be appropriate?
Jeremy, I am horrified! I heard you talking about the daycare and i was smiling because i take my son to a fancy place like that too. they even have an indoor pool in some of them. they teach the children how to swim when they are potty trained --which they do too. he is 2-almost 3. his name is Corbin. He is a dream. I live for him. You know i've said I'm going through a hard time--HE is what keeps me here. that story is going to kill me!! i wasn't expecting that! so the place is right by you? that is so sad! Poor little kid probably cried for his mama and wondered why no one came! Oh jeeze i can't even think about it anymore.
JennyCat, MN, you know, that's why I pointed out that this was a quality day-care center from all appearances.
Because, as I said, I'm not a parent, but I've always had a habit of looking at the world as if I were. I really think if we are going to make the world a better place it has to start with the kids, it has to be us bringing them up right. Teaching them to respect others and to care about things that matter.
When I heard on the news that it was THAT daycare center I was stunned.
I'm trying hard not to turn the day into a sad-fest. Last time we had a sad-themed show I think I depressed everyone and that's not my objective.
Yet at the same time, when something like this happens, it's almost impossible for me not to talk about it.
Just remember, when thinking about Corbin, this is a RARE occurance, and if ANYTHING good can come of it, I guarantee you that every daycare across the country will be shaken today. They WILL be watching the children much closer.
What I don't get is, how do you not do a "roll call" at any point during the course of the day? How can you pick a kid up and then NEVER question where they are throughout the rest of the day.
ya, i don't know. whenever i go to his shcool, the teachers are all holding clipboards and coordinating with each other on who has which kids. I mean, he is always in the same class, but I don't know, they seem to be really on top of it. I don't think anything like that could ever happen there, but i'm sure the mom in this case thought the same thing. The swimming pool think kind of scares me. but i guess learning to swim is a good thing...
THAT sounds like the way you WOULD run a day-care. HOW CAN YOU FORGET A CHILD ALL DAY!
I have to beleive that for 99.9% of day-care centers JOB ONE is accounting for the children. Not just once, at the start of a day, but constantly THROUGHOUT the day. Kids are constantly on the move, and you never know if one of them is gonna find a door they just gotta go through.
That's why I think multiple people from the daycare are involved. I don't know what it's like at Jenny's daycare, but at the one my sister went to, she was watched by several people throughout the day. In the morning she would be in a room with other kids her age with "Miss Mary" and with someone else for lunch, and someone else for the afternoon. Didn't they notice that they had an extra lunch that day?
