Didn't I once see an Abbot n Costello  movie  with a young  Ella  sitting in the back of a bus singing  A Tiskit A taskit ? I think it was thier first movie - Pardon My Sarong . Didn't Earl Der Biggers co-write it?  Wasn't he the guy who invented  Charlie Chan ?    jst 1drin ,  jstdve

Dave-

Ella first recorded the song in 1938 when she was 21 yrs old- and performed it in a 1942 Abbot and Costello movie called "Ride 'Em Cowboy" while on a bus. (Her seat is in the back of the bus too! Amazing Jim Crow footage, although the rest of the bus sings along with her). The song was written by Ella and Van Alexander, who worked with her in Chick Webb's band.

thanx for correcting me and other info, ( darn, i dont know it all lol )  thought- seems like Bud n Lou (and others)  weren't into the jim crow crap ,especially in the middle of a war. I mean pre war roles were the ole stereotypical  "un-edge-e-cated " type , movies like this showed beauty and talent . Even if it were in the back of the bus at least she was there . To d*** bad  it took a war to get people to start to open thier eyes .
