It's a sad story of woe and loss actually......well, it's maybe not that melodramatic...
I travel ALOT for work. While traveling in Santa Clara, CA, some lowlife, scum-sucking, bottom-feeder decided it would be a great idea to avail themselves of my laptop, PDA,and iPod (stolen from my rental car) while I ran into a restaurant to pick up a TOGO order. Car was locked, laptop bag was "hidden" under a jacket, but they still managed to zero in on it. 5 minutes is all it took, and a lifetime of data, contacts, and miscellaneous other info was gone. Fortunately, my husband (the Nick Burns IT God that he is!) had backed up my system a few months ago onto our home RAID, so all was not lost.
Nonetheless, since my laptop was my sole source of connection with the e-world, I've been using a desktop PC my hubby threw together and getting back what I lost.
Did we give Wef a headache? Maybe he's sniffing too much CARDBOARD!!
ES - (I'm shortening eyespye to es)
if you want the background on the cardboard thing go to the Where's Wefmeister thread and you'll see him explode about Sparky calling the corrugate stuff cardboard.
Ah, that cat! You get one muddy footprint on his carpet an BAM! You never hear the end of it. At least I didn't track the mud all over the carpet. I gave you some dry cleaning money, what more did you want?
Here kitty, kitty.....

Wow, Eyespeye - and I thought I had it bad when I came out to my truck last month to find the side vent window smashed in, and my hidden purse and gym bag gone! Actually, they broke in to take a part of the truck, I think my purse was just a bonus. I even parked under a street light - they must own the same kind of truck and can't afford parts. I was fortunate in that I'd just switched purses, so there wasn't much in there and I could remember what all WAS in there.
But I can't imagine losing so much personal electrical equipment!! Argh, you must've been sick for days, I know I still get butterflies parking my truck in that parking lot now. I bet they target rental cars in certain neighborhoods... They're going to start coming out with traveler backpacks - with pockets that have a perfect size for each piece of electrical equipment everyone totes around everywhere. Or do they already?
Well, if it helps, I'm a firm believer in karma...
And more importantly, just so yo don't feel totally in the dark, I HAVE been hanging around here, and I dunno about this cardboard thing! 'Course, I'm not as good at keeping up with everyone...
Frickin thieves , You want me to kill em ? Find out who they are and I'll shoot the SOB's, I'll start in the kneecaps and work my way up . I HATE a thief , last year , the night before Ivan hit, someone jacked the wheels of my pathfinder, they were all but brand new , so were the tires. I couldn't afford to replace them, pathfinder gone. Dream gone with it. Hate a frickin thief. Killem , Kill em all.
When I was a senior in high school, my best friend had dropped out and had no job. So my mom offered her a few bucks to watch my sister. To make a long story short, she ran up our phone bill to $300 for one month, tried to hide it from us, stole my ID, tried to set up a phone line at her house under my name (she wasn't successful because I wasn't 18 yet [and for anyone doing the math, yes, I graduated at 17]). Then, she used my mom's SSN and my name to successfully set up another phone line and run up a $3,000 bill, which of course she never paid. I tried to press charges and couldn't because she never successfully used my SSN. My mom took her to small claims court, which my mom won because the witch never showed up, but she never pressed charges.
I had some guy stiff me for race tickets once. $300 bucks. One of these days he may have four flat tires and a couple of potato's cramed up his tail pipe. What I should do is sign him up for 20-30 magazines.
