Summertime!

Hey!

What are some of the fun summertime events held in your town that you look forward to each year?

Being that in Wisconsin we have only 3 seasons- June, July, and Winter; we get what is billed as the "largest" (ie not necesarily the best) music festival in the world- Summerfest! 11 days of entertainment down at the lakefront- This year will see Tom Petty, The Black Crowes, Deep Purple, Stevie Nicks, Steve Winwood, Los Lobos, Dr John, amoung 100s of others play.

The 4th of July celebrations in Philadelphia generally bring big festivities like concerts, fireworks and overall independence type of things.

We have a few towns that are within 20 miles of each other. My hometown of Sturgis holds the world's largest motorcycle rally every August. It's a town of about 6000 people regularly and they cram in over 700,000 people for one week. http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/

Deadwood is a gambling town also known for the HBO Series. http://www.travelsd.com/website/webcam/deadwood.asp

We went to Philly last year for the 4th of July and it was awesome.  My son, my mother, and I then went to Gettysburg for the day.  Very good time.

Being as how it's always summertime here, we don't celebrate as big as Milwaukee.  Or not at least that I noticed.  But sometimes they will close off the down town Gables for a fest I just don't know when it's going to be or if it's an annual thing.

I'm so jealous about summerfest.  I totally miss it!  I want to go so bad!!  I love Stevie.  I request her everyday.

Philly may prove to be even more interesting and big this year with a part of that Live 8 thing being held here.

Indianapolis is only an hour away from me, and there's always some sort of festival going on there during the summer.  Also, Brown County state park is only a 20 minute drive, and of course, there's always something to do there too!  Plus, I'm surrounded by lakes and woods and parks.  That's why I moved here!  Now, if only I could get rid of winter....

The U.S. Grand Prix is this weekend plus Jazzfest is downtown too. So lots to do.
Jazzfest will feature Tony Bennett, the Commodores, Manhattan Transfer, Mavis Staples, Tad Robinson, Slide Hampton and more. Three days and the weather is PERFECT! Mid to upper 70s. No Clouds and low humidity.
Plus it seems there is a different street fair every weekend for somethng all over town.

Well, we just moved to the Chicago suburb we call home in December, so I have no idea what goes on there.  In downtown Chi., however, BluesFest just ended and Taste of Chicago is coming up.  Tons of food, millions of people, high prices, but a great fireworks show on the Lake on July 3rd.

Interesting tid-bit, the song "Saturday in the Park" by Chicago was written about the 4th of July in the suburb where I grew up, as did many of the band members.  My family lived across the street from the trumpet player.

So Fuzzed...
You sayin' JD has a place to stay but his girl doesn't?
Or are you expecting him to come alone?
Or did I take an innocent offer and twisted it all out of shape?

Should he make this voyage, I didn't know if his girl would want to accompany him. It makes sense that she would, but, if she didn't, I didn't want my butt kicked if she found where he had a place to stay. Not to mention what she may do to him. You know what I am saying? Of course you do.
