Other mean Forum

I have been busy at work lately, so i haven't been playing as much.  but i was on craigslist placing an ad, and i visited their political forum. I got chewed a new one man!!!  they were so mean.  I got told "fu** you" and told to go back to the hole i crawled from.  want to know what i said? :  how come if someone says something republican the libs get so mad, mean, and insulting?  so then they made my point by killing me online.  they said i was a whimp and didn't give any substance.  i said wheres the substance in telling me "fu** you?"  they should call it the liberal hatred agenda forum.

and you guys, this is not meant to start a fight here,  it is just me coming to you, my friends, with my tail between my legs.....

JC,

I would say anyone that refuses to even listen to your opinion is doing the first amendment a real disservice.  Many brave men and women died so we have the right to express our beliefs freely.

I am republican for several reasons.  If anyone cares why, I will be happy to express those reasons.  I have noticed that there is a real polarity to politics in this country.  Unfortunately, JC, you ran into an intolerant bunch who seem to think they are compassionate and ironically demonstrate the opposite.  You asked a question that hit a nerve...that isnt your fault.

well JC- we would NEVER tolerate that sort of language or beratement here. This is to be a happy place; a place where in spite of politics and religious affiliation, we get to leave those behind and just enjoy music and get to be ourselves.

Know that Riggs and I have had fierce, fierce battles when it comes to politics. Long long heated battles. BUT there was never a loss of personal respect in spite of these differences, there was never any cursing or name calling (nor did that even enter our minds), nor did it affect our friendship. We could agree that in spite of differences in politics and philosophy, doggone it, its the best feeling in the world to leave this be, and just exist without these.

Dem, Repulican, Communist, or Socialist- we can all agree that Freeze Frame rocks all equally!

Thanks Dylan.  there is TOTAL polarity.  and do you also notice that if say you go on that kind of forum, or just listen to the news--you'd THINK 90% of the world is Democrat.  that's what's repesented in the media and elsewhere.  but, who is president?  THANK YOU.  so obviously the reality is different than whats being presented right?  I mean everyone on that forum was hating on the president and the administration.  not one person going the other way.  so where are all the people that voted for Bush?  they are working...  HA HA.  just kidding. i'm at work too.  but my point is "they never worked an honest day in their life" -Howard Dean referring to republicans......

thanks JD.  i like talking politics.  I'm not so well spoken, but it is ok.  and some of my best friends disagree with me.  that's just how it is.  we're still friends...

and I would kindly ask, in the interest of maintaining that harmony, that discussions of politics be held elsewhere, or in e-mails between individuals, not here on the forum. Freeze Frame should be a place free from politics, which can be volitile and divide people.

aawww! c'mon!  can't we have a political thread? and if someone doens't want to think about that stuff, they don't have to look at it?  i wouldn't mind having a sensible group of people to discuss issues with.   I have definately learned from the people on here when the discussion leaned a little that way by accident.  but i definately respect everyone here and i feel safe here.  see the thing is, i'm not evil or tricky.  i HONESTLY have curiosities about certain subjects and I like to know what people think.  But it has been nice to just "not go there" for a while.  I've was avoiding the news or talk radio for a couple of months when i first quit drinking because it was stressing me out.  I'm kind of inching back to it though....  what do you think?  I'm ok with a no vote, like you said, we can always personal message each other if there is a burning desire.

but, when we personal message each other: it will probably only be between people that already agree with each other.  and in threads, people get exposed to ideas that they wouldn't normally.  But since this is such a good group, it is without insult.  so more stuff gets said respectfully that would normally just be unsaid because of fear.

I wouldn't stop this- that wouldn't be right. and I know Riggs wouldn't either. But JC I am honestly hoping that the station, and the forum could remain as non-politica as possiblel. I mean, look at how bad you got chewed out on the other thread by hot-heads. I would hate for that to enter this place.  I would hate for this to be a place that ticked anybody off.

I do see your point of view, and politics would seem to be a logical progession for the members of the forum to state their case and debate; but I always found the station to be an oasis from the political- there is SO MUCH of that elsewhere, how about maintaining an island away from that?

I don't know, this is only my opinion. What does everyone else think?

I think you're right about this being an oasis.  and that's probably what everyone else will vote too.  in a way, i want to talk about that stuff but at the same time, i came here and stayed BECAUSE it is an island of love and tollerance and i wouldn't want to mess with it--even to try it...

when you can't win a debate with facts ,and spin don't work, all you can do is hurl insults, and unfortunetly thats all the Dem.s / Lib.s  seem to know how to do lately, they have been taken over by extremists who aren't doing a good job with the party's image . If they hope to win anything they need to change that.  and don't wo-wee, we still wuv u !

JennyCat,

I can't TELL YOU how hard it was for me not to get political on the air during the 2004 election.

I fought it because I know how polarizing a topic it is, and I never wanted to send half the audience looking for another station.

Having said that however, I LOVE political discussions. Expecially ones with people that disagree with me like JD.

I learned though, that no matter how many facts you have at your side, no matter what proof you have of your claims, when it comes to politics people usually refuse to see the truth and stick to their own viewpoint no matter what.

If political discussions take place on the forum I'm not about to stop them, I just hope that everyone will be respectful of each others opinions and not make personal attacks.

During high school and part of college I worked at a very popular corner hardware store. And every 2 yrs or so, all the politicoes would come in with their bleached smiles and pretend to be interested in the lives of anyone who would acknowledge their presence. In the end, all they wanted was to put a sign in the window, and the store owner, who was really a simple person, knew better than to potentially chase anyone away with anyone's political sign. Things actually got ugly once with someone running for alderman "But I shop here ALL THE TIME!!!. "Well you know you've got MY vote on that alone....." NO Political signs!

I agree, we should keep the politics at bay.  But, a good forum for discussing politics is the forum at centristcoalition.com.  Almost everyone on the forum is a centrist, which gives you a big mixture of viewpoints, and there's very little senseless name calling (but I haven't checked in on that forum lately), but they are kind of cutthroat.  The only problem that I have with that forum is that most of the issues are over my head.  And if they aren't, it's not long before they are raised to that level.  But it really gives you a unique and refreshing perspective.

I think the way we conduct things right now is working just fine.  Threads based on views and opinions do arise, and no one walks away hurt.  We trust and respect each other that much.  It seems that being part of the natural flow of this group is more important than steering the flow.  I dare say that the only time we would get nasty is if someone joined in and attacked one of our own, then the guard dogs would come out!

I know you might find this hard to believe, but I was in a program in high school where we had debate.  Arkansas has this really cool program called the Arkansas Student Congress of Human Relations.  They take 6 kids from each participating high school and two from each participating college and make up a house (high school) and senate (college).  We had party caucuses and everything.  It was really awesome.  Each high school could bring two bills with them that they wanted to be considered.  It was a wonderful learning experience.  You learned Roberts Rules of Order and how it all really works.  Unfortunately, you also learned how you could be "politicked".  My bill was put on the table because of politicking.  If the bill passed the house and the senate, it crossed Bill Clinton's desk and he considered whether or not to make it a law in Arkansas, since he was governor at the time.  A lot of his really good laws were written by high school and college kids.  Awards were presented at the end of the whole thing for exemplary achievement.

I generally vote Republican, but I never vote straight ticket.  If there is someone out there that is a good candidate and I believe in what they are doing and they happen to be a Democrat, they stil would have my vote.  It's called being an informed voter.  I'm afraid a lot of people today are not informed voters.  I had a coworker that voted for Clinton the first time because she thought he was good looking.  Not only was she twisted to think he was good looking, but that angered me that she voted on such a shallow thing.

JC anytime you want to talk politics, I would welcome it. I graduated with a Political Science degree. I also was big into debate. I got to go to Harvard to participate twice in their annual Harvard Model United Nations. Granted the majority of the function focused on college parties, we did put in 8-10 hours of debate for four days!
