Unfortunately tonight will be another evening of overtime, so I can't hang with you guys much today, but I'll be around for a lil' bit before the sleep kicks in.
Good morning, all. Looks like it snowed here overnight. Not much, just enough to cover the pavement and accumulate on roofs and decks. Not much else going on at the moment, just getting ready to cruise to Camp Happy.
Happy Friday to one and all.

Morning all. JR, good to see you around this morning!!
Wow, did you guys see all the ice and snow Oklahoma and Texas got yesterday/last night?? Many people are without power this morning and it could be up to 5 days before they get it back. I hope Thumper and DS are OK.
My husband looked at my car last night. I not only have a broken serpentine belt but the retention do-dad that holds it in place is also broke. He's picking up the parts for me today after work and said he'd fix it tomorrow. For my daughter's car he's bringing home a computer scanner to see what codes it's putting out. He said he'll look at her's tonight.
Hey Ghost, was your car not running at all because of the belt or just making noise when you drove?
I'm car stupid.
It isn't running at all JR. Yesterday I went out to start it up and it made this horrible squealing sound and there was no air movement coming out of my heater. I turned the engine off, popped the hood, and saw that the serpentine belt has loose......knew right away it had broke. In my car, that belt controls the alternator, starter, and power steering in my car.
It gave no indication that it was worn or about to break beforehand. I'm just glad it happened here at home in the driveway and not out on the road somewhere; I would've been stranded along side the road and would've had to have it towed home.
Ah, alright. Well I hope you get it fixed up quickly and cheaply.
My car is making an odd noise that sounds like a belt, but I took a quick look under the hood and nothing looks like it's wrong (not that I'd necessarily know if it was).
I'm going to have to take it in next Thursday. I hate being without a car. I feel like a bird with it's wings clipped, even when it's just a few hours.
JR, it can be that your belt is old and brittle, or stretched out. Luckily, if it is a belt, it should be a pretty cheap and quick fix. But, if it is a belt, the longer you drive with it, the more chance it will break and you'll have more serious, and more time consuming problems.
I know what you mean about feeling like a bird with clipped wings. We become so dependent on our cars that when something happens to them it really messes us up. It's not going to be too expensive to get mine fixed...$75 total in parts. My husband has years of car repair knowledge so he can fix it for me. I told Mema yesterday that his knowledge has saved my family a lot of money over the years.

Yeah, I should get it in quicker I know.
It was so much easier when my mechanics were just at the end of my block.

Sure. Well, they are quite warm anymore, but you can warm it up when it arrives. I don't want to warm it up only to have it get cold as it travels to you. Do you prefer a little salt or heavier salt?

MMMMM... Warm, soft pretzel. Sounds much better than the vending machine bag of animal crackers I just had for breakfast.
Tensioner pulley seizing up... that has been the downfall of many a serpentine belt. JR... the noise you hear could be the belt itself as Mz suggested or like in Ghost's case it could be a pulley going south on you. Sometimes you get warning and sometimes you don't. Ghost... It is nice not having to pay a repair shop. I'm kinda spoiled on that myself. Glad to hear there was nothing more major going on. Hope the girl's car ends up being a simple, relatively painless fix too.
My area is on the far northern edge of the storm system currently beating on Oklahoma and Texas. We didn't get it bad at all... just a small amount of snow which is still falling. None of the ice. I too hope all is well with Thumper and DS.
Good morning back at you, Mz. It has been a brutally long week for me too. Hope your day gets better and the weekend brings you some relaxation.

I saw those at my grocery store the other day. They sell em' stuffed with stuff too. Like cheese, or pizza fillings, etc.
I tried the stuffed ones once, but I couldn't get them warmed up right in the microwave. You either have a nice warm pretzel with a frozen filling, or a leathery pretzel with a warm filling.
Hey Mema, would that sound be likely to come and go?
That's what's got me confused. Sometimes it's very loud and sometimes i can't hear it at all.
Actually, after picking my Mom up and taking her to work now I'm thinking it's more steering related though. The sound gets louder when I turn steering wheel.
I hate cars. But then I REALLY hate buses, so I guess I'll put up with the car.
It can come and go JR, and you would notice it moreso when turning the steering wheel. Mine just happened not to give any indication beforehand. Sometimes the belt might just need some lubrication too; I've heard of that. But I'd get your car in and have it looked at soon.

All those frozen pretzels are actually best when made in the toaster oven (or regular oven if the small variety is not available).

Oh yeah! Courtesy of the wuzband, I did get a good laugh this morning. Think I mentioned that he had to get an upper plate of dentures earlier this week. He's still getting used to them and his gums aren't quite healed from the extractions, but he is supposed to wear them at all times except for when he rinses his mouth out with warm salt water. With that in mind, here is a brief bit of our conversation this morning:
Me: How are you doing today? Him: Didn't sleep so well last night. I need to wash my sheets and pillowcases tonight because they have blood on them. I guess I drooled in my sleep. And I think something bit me on the butt so there is that too. Me: As you would with the denture in your mouth and your gums not being fully healed. Him: Yeah. Hey, that Polygrip is good stuff. I think you might have had a point about it being a good idea to use that for a while. Me: I thought you were going with the "suction will keep it in place" idea. Him: When I woke up this morning, the denture wasn't so much in my mouth. Me: Are you trying to tell me that you woke up because you were literally chewing your own arse? Him: Um... er... yeah. That Efferdent is pretty good stuff too. Needless to say, thanks for getting that for me. Me: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It could, but belt and pulley noises tend to be consistent once they start. Before you take it to the shop, I might suggest checking your power steering fluid to see if it is low.

He's not my ex-husband legally speaking. Figured there should be a designation for his situation. I heard a friend use the term in relation to her ex and adopted it. Oddly, he even appreciates it most of the time.
