I'm going to spend the night hosing down the house in the hopes that none of the neighbors fireworks lands on the roof and sends the place up in flames. We seem to have a real problem with that around these parts.
A few years ago one of our neighbors lost their entire front porch to a firework!
GRRRRR!
Hate to be a grumpy old man, but I hate this holiday! I take that back, I LOVE what the holiday stands for, I hate the way most idiots celebrate it, by drinking and then playing with explosives!
Our state allows fireworks, but not every county does. Luckily for my husband, ours does. He always blows at least $100.00! We have just moved into a new neighborhood, so he is looking forward to driving our new neighbors nuts. We may also go out on the boat and see the fireworks at night. I get scared because it is dark and so many people drink and drive on their boat. However, this year we (our state) are celebrating the opening of the world's largest cable support bridge. They are pulling out the big guns for the fireworks and I do not want to miss it. There is no better view than being under them and being on the water!
We're going to see my In-Laws in central IL, they live in a private lake community. There is an island in the middle of the lake that they shoot the fireworks from and it is SO COOL! You can feel the concussion and then hear the echo across the farm fields. Do that with a frosty beer in one hand, a bratwurst in the other, and all you can say is "God Bless the U.S.A!|"
Better yet, maybe you could relocate down here! The winters are so warm! You would not miss the Packers a bit. They play them all the time down here. Damn those tv execs!
There's a smaller park by my house that does fireworks. It's become a tradition to grill out and then head over there to watch them. They're good, and in no way have we any more interest in heading to the lakefront with 3 million other people for those fireworks!

I'm taking a half day on Friday, golfing then going to the lake. My brother always gets the fireworks. We shoot ours off then hop on the pontoon and watch what everyone else does. A weekend at the lake I can't wait.
We usually go to IU to watch the fireworks at the stadium, but last year it started pouring halfway through, so they cut it short. There's always fireworks at the lake too. And we'll probably get some legal (darnit) fountains to set off. My parents always got the out of state fireworks, but I don't think there's anywhere in my neighborhood that I could light them and get away with it, so I'll stick to the legal stuff and sparklers. Last year our neighbors had a party, so maybe they will again this year too...
By the way, you can align your sparklers on the pavement to make pictures and spell things out, and after they burn, the picture or message doesn't go away for a while. Just ake sure they all touch, have fun, and be safe!!!!!!
I think its legal in wisconsin now to have all them big ol' fireworks now. Actually I think its something stupid like "you can buy them here, you just can't set them off here".
Its another tradition that I turn on the police scanner that I have after getting home from the fireworks. That ,without a doubt, is the BEST night of the year to be listening to the police scanner. All sorts of noise complaints, firework complaints, small fires, police chasing kids with firecrackers down alleyways, a bunch of drunk and disorderlies yelling in the background- its an absolute riot!
One of my favorite childhood memories is taking a family trip to south dakota. we were riding along, and then all of a sudden in the middle of nowhere, was THE BLACK CAT factory! Actually it looked like just a big shed. But even my dad knew it- we hit PAY DIRT! We had a ball, must have bought a 5 gallon bucket filled with stuff to blow up!
