The ride to/fro work

Hey-

I thought of this thread the other day when I saw the elderly softball players.

What is your ride to/fro work like? What do you see that's interesting, how long is the journey? how do you travel? I know star takes a train for example- that's pretty cool. There are only 2 commuter amtrak trains that travel through milwaukee- a few trips to chicago and back each day, and one train heading the other way to Minneapolis.

I live 10 minutes away from where I work, 15 if the traffic is heavy. This is great, as I always had to commute at least 30-45 mins previously.

The first turn I take by my house is by a yard in which there is a dog who HATES cars. This dog will do summersaults and bark at cars. I can tell when he's been at it for awhile cuz sometimes he's too tired to jump around, he'll just kind of growl. I honk the horn at him and he gets really really mad.

On the way to work I go past a couple of huge cemeteries and one small jewish one that is absolutely packed to maximum capacity.

I also go past a pet store that I believe is open, but the windows are always dark so you can't see inside. There is a real good mexican restaurant where I make my turn that is open like 22 hrs a day. They also serve crab legs on Thursday which must be really good cuz then its packed.

I then go past the park where the elderly softball players play in the morning- then past some old industrial age buildings and then am at work.

JD-

if this isn't the most and thread I've ever seen I don't know what is.

C'mon man dig deep into your creativity.  I know you can do better than I drive past old people play softball.

On a good day I can get here in twenty one minutes. However, good days are rare. When school is in session, it can be 1 hour! It is all interstate for me. I do pass the lottery counter every morning and dream about what would I do if I won the $$$$. However that would be another thread starter! On my way home I have to go to the daycare. It takes longer because people in SC cannot drive. Do not ask them to stay in the right lane knowing that you are getting off soon! Anyway, once I have the girl, I do not care if it takes a week! We count, say the abc's and look at her favorite stuff: the lake with the big fishes, the fire station and firetrucks, the school buses and her favorite the big tractors that are building a superwallyworld!

Now come on Star, you're just being mean.

I also have about a 10 minute drive to work.  Sometimes less if the traffic's good.  I don't pass a whole lot of interesting stuff, fast food joints, a high school, and usually at least one cop who's pulled someone over (luckily, none of those have been me yet), but the road that I spend most of my time on is dangerous.  People walk down it on their way to work, but there's no sidewalk and no turn lane or anything.  One side goes from pavement to ditch, and the other side has a thick line of trees all the way up to the pavement.  Reason #1 that I don't walk to work.  Reason #2: This road also has a couple high steep hills.  We have a lot of competition bike riders who come to Bloomington to ride the hills, and even they avoid these.  In winter, if it's icy, I have to take the long way around, which turns my 10 minute drive into a 30 minute drive, because I can't get up those hills if they're slick.  At one point, theres a stopsign halfway up one of the lower hills, and if it's raining, I spin my tires trying to get through the intersection.

wow that's some interesting topography MZ!

THere is this bridge by my house that is soon to be torn down and rebuilt! Knowing this town, it will take YEARS!!

That will turn my 10 min ride into a 30 minute one- and I am going to have to go through the BAD side of town where people get shot! and this will be way over-crowded too once the bridge is out!

bad! VERY BAD!

I've got about a 40 minute commute by I go down a heavily wooded road that has some really nice horse farms on it.  The only aggrevation is that at two points it goes from 4 to 2 lanes and you always get some one who crams on the gas so they can be one car ahead.  If that's the worst I face, then I guess I'm doing O.K.

On a good day my ride to work is about 30 minutes. I travel down a major road with 1000s of other people. And if there is a problem or accident my drive can easily double. At some point along my way I pass a nucleur power plant, a chemical company, car dealerships, univeristy, drug company research facility and of course the park where I would rather spend my day. Because I am on the major highway most of the way, I don't come across any interesting things like JD's corner dog. How boring is my drive? Pretty boring.

WFTR-

I used to have a part time job just minutes outside the city and there, all of a sudden, was all sorts of farms and animals. This one cow was always by the fence by a stop sign. Always checking out the traffic. Well it took me a couple of weeks to figure this out- but on the other side of the fence was a bucket of apples- you could get out of the car and feed the cow an apple or 2. there was a little sign there with a rhyme about the cow. that was pretty funny- I gave it an apple a couple of times.

There are a couple of ways I can go to work. One way I cross the same railroad track four times. There have been a couple of times I've been stopped by the same train three times. How's that for boring?
Hey Sparks where did you hear Orange Barrels?

Those are our local boys. I don't listen to them like I did in the past. Chick is the guy that makes the show. He plays the part perfectly. They always broadcast from the track on the first day of qualifying. That picture of Rupert and me was taken at their broadcast. I work at the track with one of the DJ's from their station so we got all kind of access.

I agree, without Chick it just wouldn't be the same. Have you seen Christy Lee? I don't think she is as hot as they try to make her out to be do you? Maybe she used to be?

You are correct sir. She's cute but she's not the hot babe they portray her to be. Here's the show staff.

This might help too.
It's Chick in back, Bob, Kristi and Tom

This is who I work with at the track. My good friend Laura.

Hey, Ray.  Isn't that you standing in the dark T-shirt?  Veeeery eerie similarity.  And your correct, radio folks very rarely look like their voices.
