I love numbers!

OK, not usually, but Confuzzed at least will appreciate this.  At the beginning of the fiscal year, we set goals based on what we want to achieve in the next year.  Then, depending on how many of your goals you reach, and how many corporate goals are reached, we get a bonus.  Since I started a few months in, my goals were basically set for me, including the conversion rate of 26.7%.  After I started, we changed the rules on what counted as a campaign, we got pickier.  I was so afraid I wouldn't reach that goal now.  But I just ran the last report, and the conversion rate is 27.0%!  That means all my goals were reached!  Woohoo, bonus time!!!!

WTG Queenie! Well done. I am glad that someone was successful with their numbers today.

My numbers were off. I was looking for an amount for 1 1/2 hours and then realized what it was and went over and told the person that screwed it up and she fixed it. I should have realize the error earlier, I just wasn't looking at it that way.

I am a slave to the numbers. All hail numbers! Without them I wouldn't have a job and wouldn't know what to do with myself. I would just wreck havoc on society.

confuzzed--now you know why I hate accounting.  I am actually a very good auditor, but I no longer have the patience.  I stay far away from accounting.  I even handed over the bills and check book last week to my wife and said just tell me how much to earn.

I took a few associate level courses at the local community college the last couple of years just sort of as a hobby. Business Accounting, Real Estate Investing, Economics, Business Management, Finance....to supplement my liberal arts education. But even moreso, just to prove to myself that I was not stupid at math, as I had felt I was for most of my life. Here, when applied to business and finance, where money matters, I did just fine. I also had nothing to lose except my time and money invested in these courses. Not to brag but I got 4.0 GPA under these conditions.

I always felt that about ANY course- give any student of any ability at any level a reason to learn and apply what they've learned to the way they see, act, and react to the world in which they live; make it pertinent; and they cannot be not successful at it.

The next level for me is to have these book smarts merge with the real world; which is not always easy. Sure they can teach you how to make a ledger, but can they teach you to maintain it when some freak at work hides it from you?? that, that is the lesson!

hey ray-

no- that was just a hypothetical example. I have nothing to do with finance where I work, only that they are a loud department an isle away from me so I need to throw on my head-phones!

At times accounting and finance people can get out a little of control. But consider what we do all day. Numbers here, numbers there, numbers where they shouldn't be. And when it becomes just you and the numbers time and time again, it can spell a receipe for a short fuse. I do spend a lot of time with just myself and the numbers. I will survive. I juggle them all day.

The numbers are okay.   It's when you have to add the logic () of the tax code that makes it worse. The big numbers do not scare me. It is the IRS that does!

I usually hate numbers.  I took an extended Calculus class in college (5 credits instead of 3) so I would never have to do math again.  So then, last year I took a tax class to try and earn some extra money come January.  Even though I was in the top quarter of the class, I am so glad I didn't start doing taxes.  Numbers stress me out.

I really hate doing the monthly reports, nevertheless the end of year reports, and I always wonder why a numbers person can't do them!  I just got lucky this time.

Queenie - I am just glad that your numbers worked out here. I promise that numbers aren't too bad. It's when you don't know what they represent that is the problem. That gets you in far more trouble.

Oh yes... the numbers. I go home every night curl up in a ball in the corner and rock back and forth, back and forth. Then by morning I'm ready to go.

Yes Phat Cat, but do you ever dream of numbers? I occasionally go through a period where I dream about numbers and spreadsheets. The spreadsheets even have colors! Kind of scary.

I dream of numbers and balance sheets, general ledgers, payroll.  That is enough for me

I dream of the bid, the ask, the high, the volume, percentage of change, the yield, ex-dividends, etc etc...

I used to chase the numbers 21 through 42, but it was on a football field and those were ball carriers...does that count?

I don't want to dream of my job, and when I do, it's usually not good dreams...   Frankly, I never want anyone I know to be one of my clients...

Dylan - of course that counts. No one ever said that the numbers were tied to a particualr place. Of course we are usually the ones being chased.

And why does it not surprise me that you went after anything on the field that moved?

Professor - I believe I may start calling you tenacious d during the football season. Just for something different. Although, isn't there a rap guy out there somewhere with that name?
