Happy Opening Day!

Hey baseball fans - happy opening day! Take a deep breath. You may be able to smell the hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts.

Yes, I know a lot of people find baseball boring, but it symbolizes a few other things for me. The first and most important is that Spring has arrived. The new growth, the warmer weather and the sun shines longer.

My Phillies start on the road this year. They will begin defending their NL Championship crown in Washington at 1pm with our new ace. Gametime will soon be here.

Let's go Phillies! w00t.gif

Mema - I hope the Royals stay out of the basement this year.

Murs - I guess the same can be said about your Pirates.

JR and Dylan - Your Brewers will be okay. May the kick the Cardinals and Cubs butts. But you better get out of the way when the Phillies train comes rolling through. nana.gif

Darlene - Good luck with the Red Sox, but I don't want to hear about them all season.

SG - Since your club is in my division, may they continue to finish behind the Phillies. wink

YAY! I'm gonna OD on Baseball today. I've been watching the MLB Network since 9:30. smile.gif

I'll echo all of Fuzzies well-wishes and add a "good luck" to your Phillies Fuzz! Though I think it might be time for you guys to let someone else in the eastern division have a little post-season fun. You guys have kind of been hogging it lately. smile.gif

The boys of summer have arrived! PLAY BALL!

Oh, come on M. Didn't they spend a little time atop the division last year before falling on their faces?

And JR - we don't mind hogging the division. After all those many a losing years, we deserve a little run and to take everything we can get. Someon has to take a run at the Braves string of 12 or 14 straight division titles.

Hey, this isn't baseball, but what did you think about the Donovan McNabb trade?

I seem to remember they started out on fire for about 4 weeks... then mentally wandered off to pick the daisies about mid season. Happens a lot. hmm.gif

Whatcha gotta do is only watch every fifth day when Zach Greinke pitches.  Then keep your own notepad showing what the other teams did on that day too.

Then at the end of the year see how ya did.  That'll be about a 35 game season and you'll probably be at or near the top!  YAY!

(those are the kinds of little things I had to do during the Brewers 15 year run of futility.  Anything to keep it interesting)

I have a feeling he will trade out soon. That's kind of the M.O. of the team...get a good player, keep him a few seasons, then trade him to a better team. I mean, why keep talent around?

I haven't thought much about the McNabb trade. I just heard about it on my way into the office this morning. Stupid Eagles. Always trying to upstage the Phillies. I don't know about it though. The team was winning while he was here, but not winning it all. I feel he was a better quarterback when he was younger. He got away from some of the things that helped him. I definitely don't like that they traded him within the division. Maybe they figure they know how to get to him and aren't afraid to face him twice a year.

I am not so sure the young kid is ready to play, We'll find out. It may be a couple of rough years as he learns and grows.

I actually laughed out loud at this as I was driving home from work yesterday!

Skid Roady, the afternoon DJ on one of the local stations was giving the update on the Royals game still in progress. It went something like this:

Well, it looks like the Tigers are soundly spanking the Royals in the opening day game. It started out well enough. Zach Greinke was the starting pitcher and when they pulled him out of the game, the score was 4-2 Royals. Now we are in the top of the 8th and the score is 4-8, Tigers. But hey, it doesn't really matter. Win or lose, the Royals are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs already!

Oh, that is terrible. no.gif

Poor Greinke. He doesn't get any help. They gave him offense, he gave them pitching and the bullpen blew the game.

On a good note, the Phillies ended up kicking butt. They are going 162-0 in the regular season! First undefeated baseball season ever!

confuse What? You don't think it could happen?

Might could happen for your Phillies.

I think the Royals need to hire Bob Uecker to be their official sports commentator. It would be just like the movie "Major League".

"Just a bit outside."

I think Bob is a little busy with the Brewers, but let us not remember that in that movie the Indians came back and made it to the playoffs.

Well, it was worth a shot. shrug.gif

Maybe you can become a Phillies fan. Perhaps Dylan will try to have you become a Brewers fan.
