The Day Before Friday - What are you listening to?

Good day all.

So what's everyone listening to?

I'm looking at Lala.com.  You can listen to any song for free once.  Then you can make your own music library by adding songs to the web player for 10 cents each.  If you decide you want to buy the MP3, your $0.10 is credited towards the purchase, most songs are $0.89 each ($0.79 if you previously bought the web version), and they are DRM free.

So what I'm doing is looking at the Billboard new releases list and adding the songs that look like they aren't rap or country.  I'm afraid without FFR, I won't be listening to any new stuff, so I'm forcing myself to.

Lala sounds interesting.  So once you add a song for .10 you have it permanently for unlimited listenings in your online music library?

I started with Pandora this morning, but quickly went to Loudcaster and have tried a few stations already with little satisfaction.  I found a nice rock station but then saw it only had 700 songs in its playlist.  Geesh, that's nothing compared to FFR....

I don;t see how I'm going to find anything better that FFR.....no

Right now I'm not listening to anything.  I think I'm going to look around over on Loudcity and Live365 to see if there's anything remotely comparable to FFR.

I'm not a fan of purchasing songs one by one online.....I'm still a die-hard "buy the whole cd" from a store after sampling tracks to see if it's worth buying.  Or I borrow cds from the library and rip 'em to my computer.  smile

Exactly.  But you can only listen to it through their website.

You can also recommend songs to friends.  So if anyone tries out Lala, add me.  I'm MzHartz, of course.  It looks like there's also a Facebook link.

That's usually how I am to.  I don't know if I'll actually buy any of these MP3s.  But at $0.10 a pop to try out new music to listen to online, I'm okay with that.  That seems totally fair to me.

Oh, you can also upload your own music library to their player, so you can listen to your music from any computer.

Morning. I am not currently listening to anything. Sometimes it takes me a while to get started and I haven't plugged in the portable hard drive yet with my tunes on it. There are a lot of days where I don't listent to any tunes while I am here.

Now, I have to get some goals. The big shots want goals that they can use as part of a measure for paying out bonuses. Yesterday I told my boss I had some goals, but that they weren't exactly job related. I wish I could find something that would show animation that would show a soccer or a hockey goal that I could load into this stupid performance evaluation software. That would be funny.

G'morning.

I tried Pandora again a few days ago, but I just can't make myself like it.

Right now, I'm just listening to the sound of the space heater under my desk.

I've got some podcasts to catch up on, and about 10 different Christian stations bookmarked in my WinAmp that I can cycle through depending on what's playing.

Goal #1: Don't kill any fellow coworkers or superiors.

Goal #2: Minimize injuries when I burn down the building.

I found another station that says it has 12,000+ songs in it's collection and uses the same request software as JR.  However, the reason they have 12,000 songs is that they list EVERY song from EVERY CD they have, and if a song is on multiple CDs from a given group, such as the original CD and then a greatest hits CD, they list the same song twice or three times.  If JR did that, he'd have 50,000 songs in his library! no

Wow, you know what I'm already noticing about most of the stations over on Loudcity??  You have to wait one hour before your request will play.  They all say it's RIAA rules. bleh

Murs, at one time JR had over 12,000 songs in the library.  He cleaned house and went to more of a "if it is/was a hit, it's in the library."

I'm looking at 1980s.FM right now; I think I'm going to give them a listen and see how it is.

I would have a blast going through their collection. I wonder if we all show up at JR And JD's house (with food or adult beverages as bribery) and bring a portable harddrive (I have a 1TB drive) how much we could get away with. giggle.gif

Something like that Mz.

1. Try not to kill the etch. (She is working my nerves the last three weeks.)
2. Win the lottery jackpot and retire. AKA Become wealthy.
3. Lose weight.
4. Eat better.
5. Buy myself a good laptop.
6. Try not to quit before finding a new job.

I'm way busy today and I haven't even turned any music on! So no playtime for me cry

Sparky, I also have grooveshark but I'm not on it much or haven't been.
I also have playlist.com and last.fm
I will probably use Pandora and blip.fm more right now. I've used them more so they are more tailored to me already

And now back to work hmm

I think I'm going to keep looking for another station.  Like I said, the one I have on isn't bad, but to me it doesn't seem to be rockin' enough.  I don't want to say "easy listening" but this is what it reminds me of. hmm

grooveshark you plug in all of your songs....I like slacker because you pick one song or artist and it plays songs/artists that go well with your selected one.

Grooveshark looks pretty cool.  Like Lala only free!  I have to get back to work though.  JR is causing me a lot of lost productivity making me have to seach for good music now!

Sometimes companies concentrate so hard on the bottom line that they forget it's possible to cut too much.  Our company is a retailer with 280 stores, and they've walked the fine line between cutting enough and too much the past year.  You can notice the fewer number of associates on the sales floors, and here in IT we have more to do with fewer people.  I've noticed it in our favorite restaraunt chain too - fewer waiters and staff on hand.  It can hurt business worse than keeping the poeple on the payroll to begin with....

there was a station on live365 that we used to compete with for listener hours....it was actually pretty good...and had a similar request list

JR..the one you stole the codes for the random song box on the now playing page??

We were told in advance that this one would be painful. Basic economics... my employer underbid the contract to get the business, so they were expecting some cuts. Then right as the contract was being signed, Sprint did a huge layoff so that put us deep in a hole.  Plus factor in the economy and the fact that business is slowing down... its just not a pretty picture.

And I was just told that the red-headed Etch-a-Sketch got it. No surprise there... just puts a cramp in my Etch postings.
