At Star's Request

Star asked me to start a thread to keep things interesting, so here goes!  In true WFTR Style!

What is your favorite story/character from the Bible?  If your not up on scripture, then raise an interesting question that you have about the Bible.

(This will either be a very compelling thread, or bomb totally!)

My favorite Bible characters are the Two Witnesses from Revelations.  No nonsense, call it like it is, and don't take no guff.

NEXT!

Come to think of it, that should be the obvious choice, shouldn't it?

Him first, THEN the Two Witnesses.

I could get to 1000 easily on this thread. For me now, the Psalms are a big part of my life. I read them to keep my spirits up. Some days at the hospital are unbearable.

Favorite character would probably be Mary. She endured so much- criticism, judgement and heartache, but never waivered or questioned God's decisions.

I enjoy the parables to help other people see the gospel for what it is. It is a useful guide.

Lastly, I like to randomly go through and pick out passages about wisdom, character and the way you treat your parents. I read to my son from the Bible every morning while he brushes his teeth. That gives me two minutes to get God's two cents in!

I always liked Moses because, other than Christ, he had everything the world could offer, but gave it all up for what was a greater possession.

I like that guy that had everything taken away from him, but did not blame god. I forget his name......

I appreciate Peter.

His heart was in the right place but so many times he just seemed to say the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Who was the guy who was going to kill his son for God, and then God said, "Dude, just kill a sheep instead?"

The father of many nations, Abraham.  Interestingly, he is claimed by the Jewish, the Christians, and the Islamics as their founding father which has led to much of the trouble we have today, especially in the Middle-East.  Who is the real inheritor of the kingdom of Abraham?

I always liked the imagery is Psalm 23 too.  (That's the walk through the valley of the shadow of death one, right?)

Okay, talk about out of character, you've got this sworn atheist into bible-talk!  The bible is a significant part of history, no matter what you believe in.

No, I'm not going to kick his , I don't know where those things have been!

You are correct, MZ, Psalm 23 is "Yea, tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil...."  It is probably the most well known Psalm and most quoted.  Why don't you try reading the whole thing again? Just plant yourself in some green grass near some still water and give it a once-over.

Time for me to go, but please keep posting!  I should probably go over my concordence and get ready for discussion tomorrow.  Talk to you tomorrow!

I would Have to say Paul was an impressive example of someone who had a deep conversion.
His conversion was miraculous...he became what he was trying to persecute.
He was willing to die for those convictions.
Anything is possible with God.

I like the one where Jones finds the Ark - and it's full of sand. But then all these ghosts start coming out, and peoples faces start melting off - you know, fire and brimstone and all that.

Thanks Wef - a whole thread at my request.  You rock!!

I would have to say the chicks of the Bible rock!  Ruth, Mary the mother of Jesus and Magdalin, and Sarah.

I probably like Mary M. the best for her conversion and disipleship.  But I have yet to get to the book of Ruth (anybody read that book? - I didn't)

I have, but it's been a while.  It is quite a romantic story!  Speaks very powerfully to the bond between women.  So being a guy, I don't get it at all.  (JOKING!)
