The "HOLY COW, JEREMY STARTED THE TUESDAY THREAD!" Thread

G'morning all.

Can someone tell me when the price of chicken skyrocketed to actually be MORE EXPENSIVE that lean beef?!?!?  WTH!  Chicken used to be the CHEAP option.  I paid nearly 8 bucks today for what can't be more than a pound and a half of boneless chicken.  no.gif

How come everything goes up 20 percent in price every year and my paycheck only goes up about 3 percent?

Anyway, just checking in to say "Hi".  I'm off to bed soon.  I hope everyone has a great day!

Good day all.

Chicken's been higher than beef here for a while.  I've been getting mine from the Farmer's Market, where the price of chicken is about the same as it is at the grocery store, but it's much better quality.  But the price of beef is more than chicken at Farmer's Market.  I think when cows are actually treated like cows, they're more expensive.  But in commercial beef production, they've "streamlined the process" so much, it's cheaper than chickens.

G'morning.

Sorry JR, I don't know the answer to your chicken question. Lately, we've been getting chicken thighs only. They are cheaper and being dark meat, they grill up nice. I think they charge the premium for boneless white meat.

We had trauma at our house last night. The boy had a crash on his bike and got some road rash. He has a big 2" circle of rash on one elbow and some cuts on the other. He also got other bumps and scrapes. We got him all cleaned up and I wrapped his arm up good and he was feeling better. I think not being able to see how it looked helped more than anything. Now today, he's analyzing what exactly happened (who's fault it was other than his own), what he'll be able to do/not do, how long it will take to heal, etc. I have no idea where he gets his personality traits. *shrug*

It's supposed to be a perfect 73 degrees here later today. Yay, Spring!

Morning all. It is rainy here and only 50*.

JR - that is why I buy 4 or 5 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken when it is on sale for $1.99/lb. I go through more chicken and pork and could do without the beef.

I should go do something.

Good day, all! I'm pleased to report that the bright, shiney thingy up in the sky still exists! And I'd totally forgotten that the sky is blue and not gray. smile.gif It is supposed to get up to 72* today, presently 59*. w00t.gif

I guess I have never looked at the dimensions I'm getting for what I'm paying where it comes to the chicken versus beef thing. I buy it all at Costco, so it all seems to cost about the same. I guess I will have to pay more attention to that.

Hey all. The sun peeked out for a tiny bit this morning, but now the clouds are rolling in. The temp is nice -- 64 right now.

Yep, chicken is expensive -- and all it is, is yardbird! I buy in bulk when it's cheap and stick it in the freezer, but I'm feeding a small army... I've also been buying ground turkey in place of ground beed because it's less expensive. Also, we've come to like it more. Still tho, there's nothing like a nice jucy t-bone!

Poor little L, hope his boo boos heal quickly.  cry

I haven't had a raise in two years either. no.gif

And everything around all of us has gone up in price. The big boys don't seem to care. I guess when you have money to pay the bills you don't notice these things.

I'm going on three years since my last raise, but still having medical insurance makes it ok... for now...

In theory, my company is looking at our salary structure to see if we are where we should be or if adjustments need to be made. They are honest about mentioning that "adjustments" could be up or down. We were told that the possibility of merrit increases exists, but none of that til next year at the earliest.

I am fortunate that my company pays for our medical insurance. But the SHE BOSS mentioned that if business doesn't pick up, we will be footing part of the bill... most likely without a wage increase...

The last company I worked for paid for medical insurance. That was nice.

I technically didn't get a raise. I talked to my boss about it, and we agreed on quarterly bonuses instead. I probably get more that way anyway, so it works for me.

My medical is partially subsidized by my employer. It is nice that it is affordable.

Speaking of medical... apparently my brother's baby-momma is in the early stages of labor. hmm.gif I was so hoping that wouldn't happen until next week.

there is a printing company in the milwaukee area that recently slashed employees wages by 21%! I can't imagine that. But I believe that its true about the fat cats. "Ok so this year I only make $150,000 instead of $180,000. There goes my new boat...."disbelief

I was really lucky when I worked for my last company and didn't have to pay for my benefits. And they were good benefits. I occasionally still curse management for "merging" with that other company. Now I pay towards my crappy benefits and the cost continues to go up every year (just like everything else).

Actually I guess this is one reason to be happy I'm in a union. All the management at Marquette is under a pay freeze.

Looking at the rest of you it appears I'm lucky to have gotten a raise at all. Then again I'm pretty sure every one of you makes a good deal more money than I do right now.

the last place I worked for paid medical and dental after you were there for 5 yrs. they had a wage freeze for 3 yrs that was lifted. 2 weeks after that lift, they announced they would no longer be able to provide paid medical and dental. So essentially these folks got maybe a 3% raise, but then got told they had to pay the eqivalent of a new car (cadillac even) payment for family coverage insurance each month....
