Milwaukee smooth-jazz station switches over to 'Tiger Radio'

May 27, 2010 12:14 p.m. | Milwaukee's smooth-jazz format station, WJZX-FM (106.9), switched over to something called "Tiger Radio" at noon Thursday.

Tom Joerres, president and general manager of Milwaukee Radio Group, which owns WJZX and four other stations in the Milwaukee market, announced on the air that the station's smooth-jazz format would still be available on the station's high-definition channel, which you can only listen to on an HD radio, and on the company's sister station online, columbusjazz.com">columbusjazz.com.

Joerres cited economic pressures in the radio business for the switch. The station then abruptly switched to "Tiger Radio" - "the brand-new station for liars and cheaters." Few clues about what that means were on the station's retooled website, but songs played to start off the new incarnation included Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart" and Stevie Wonder's "Part-Time Lover" - radio shorthand for "stay tuned for more changes."(23)
