The Door Jam

My mom and I were leaving a restaurant last night and she noticed a guy open the car door for the girl from the outside.  She commented on that.  Before I give my opinion, I want to know what do you guys do? - open door from outside or not.  And your reasoning either way and girls - your preference.  I think everyone has an opinion on this.  Let's make it a poll!  How fun!!

I'm afraid that is an act of politeness and respect that has faded with time for me.  A big reason is that my wife usually prefers to drive.

I open the door for her when I am not mad at her for something.  but like wef--if we go somewhere she prefres to drive.  I am just a passenger reading the newspaper.

My wife was never one for the door stuff. I should let her drive everywhere. She says I scare her. The girls say she over reacts. I agree with them but I try to hold my tongue...that's a fight waiting to happen. When we were going through Tennessee we had a couple of mountains to go up and down. On the decent she said I was going too fast, mind you I'm getting passed, she said she felt like she was on a roller coaster. For some reason she thinks I'm always going to crash. I don't know why. I haven't been in an accident in 8-9 years then I got rear ended. I need to slip her something to knock her out.

My husband is the "anti gentlemen." Open my own door. However, I had a boyfriend growing up that insisted on opening the door always. I had to sit and wait for him to get out and open it. I absolutely loved it. It was so sweet and still gives me goosebumps.

I think it's as much related to an appreciation factor as anything.

If I could give my wife goosebumps just by opening the door for her, I'd do the "Duke's Slide" across the hood to open it for her every time.

I have in the past, but she's usually out of the car before I can make it around to the other side. When it comes to holding open doors to stores or helping the little old lady with loading the refrigerator into her compact car I do it every time.

I'm MzIndependent, so I hate it when guys open the car door for me, or drop me off at the door and then go park the car (unless it's raining), etc.  I am no better than they are.  And I'm impatient.  I don't want to sit there and wait while the guy walks all the way around the car.

Now, if the car has manual locks and I'm the passenger, I do like it when a gentleman unlocks my side first.  But that's more of a courtesy thing, I do the same for my friends when they ride with me.  And, I do like it when my husband opens the door to the restuarant or whatever open for me.
