Just gettin' home and thought I'd start the daily thread.
Gonna stay up today til noonish or so and sleep in the afternoon. It's my Mom's birthday (63) so I wanted to stay up until she get's up so I can go over and wish her a happy birthday, maybe give her a ride to work if she wants it.
I'll check back lata to see if anything interesting is happening in here.
I got some of those Starbucks instant iced coffee packets. It's hard for me to stop and get coffee when I walk to work, so it's nice to have something here. Since it's summer and all I'd have to do is pour cold water in, I thought the iced coffee would work best.
So I open my first packet and go to the water cooler to fill it up. The water cooler is empty and there's no refills. I really didn't want to get water from the gross sink downstairs.
I also have an electric teapot in my office. I checked, and it's full of water, so I pour it in my cup. I found it ironic that even the water for my iced coffee ends up coming from a kettle.

I'm the same way about not wanting water out of a faucet or a water fountain at work anymore.
It's either got to be bottled water, water from a water cooler or at least water purified from a pitcher.
Lately I've been filling four bottles of water from my PUR water pitcher and taking them into work, then bringing em' home and refilling em' for the next night.

Here it's more about hygiene. And I'm really not a germ-ophobe. But my choice is water cooler, bathroom sink (which isn't really big enough to fit a glass under), or the tub sink in our kitchen area. I should post a picture of this sink, it's disgusting.
Aw man! Woot has been acquired by Amazon. Today's item on Woot was a Kindle for $150. I was finally going to get one, I just needed to clear it with Brian and ask my boss if I was getting my bonus on this check. Brian's still in bed, and my boss stopped in only briefly before her doctor's appointment. Now it's sold out.
Things are not going too well today. These updates that I wanted (and really needed) by 12/31/09 have been completed and, natuarally, they are wrecking havoc with my stuff. I think I am going to soda early. I was going to bring some iced tea today but I forgot it.

I wasn't sure if they cut the price because Barnes & Noble cut the price of the Nook (or was it the other way around), in response to the iPad, or because they were coming out with something new. They already have a Kindle DX, it's bigger and more expensive ($400 or $450, something like that).
But now I'm even more tempted to get a Nook. Maybe if I sell Brian's computer and get him a cheap netbook (NOW I'm seeing them for $200, why couldn't I find that around Christmas?), he'll be okay with me getting a Nook.

Actually it's the same reasoning for me. The work plumbing is old, the faucets barely run, and I see what the kids do to the water fountains. No thank you. I'll lug in a gallon or two from home every night.
Hi all! It's a nice day here so I went out and mowed the grass then sprayed the yard for skeeters. My city sprays but a neighbor 3 houses down is allergic to the stuff so they always shut the sprayer off before they reach that house and don't turn it back on until they get down to the next block. Makes me mad because I pay for this service on my property taxes but I don't receive what I'm paying for!
Happy Birthday to JR's mom!! And I'm with Fuzzy....I won't be paying for that show either. That's one image I don't have to actually see to imagine.
Mz, my gutter mind could come up with some whoppers regarding the Kindle and Nook if I didn't already know what they are.

I've decided, with my quarterly bonus, I'm buying a Nook. My mind is stuck on it now. And Ghost, a said a Nook, not "nookie." I don't have to buy that. ;)
Mz - how come the Nook? You were so ready to get the Kindle. Is the Nook better? Does it offer more stuff? You know I don't know much about these things because I didn't have plans to get one.

I got to borrow the Etch's Kindle for vacation. Then my boss brought in her Nook. So I was able to compare the two. There's a few things I like better on the Nook.
You can let a friend "borrow" a book on the Nook.
You can read most books for free if you are in a Barnes & Noble store.
I like the navigation better on the Nook. On the Kindle there is this little square you use to move around the screen, and it has a keypad on the bottom. On the Nook, instead of a keypad, there is a second, full color screen. I prefer typing on the Kindle, but I thought it was easier to get around on the Nook.
The screensaver on the Kindle uses preinstalled pictures only. You can customize them on the Nook.
You can upload music to the Kindle, but without plugging it into the computer, you can't see what you have loaded or what's playing. Also on the Kindle, you can't change the order of the songs, you can only play, stop, or skip to the next track. On the Nook, there is a displayed music player with the basic settings you'd expect to see.
The only thing I like better on the Kindle is the size. It's thinner than the Nook.
Good evening, all! It was a heckuva busy day for me. Seriously! I got in, had a brief chat with the boss, then went to my desk and checked my e-mail. It was all over from thre. Didn't get home til almost 7PM. It is nice being busy, but being that busy for a dumb reason sucks.
Ah well... WFH Friday before a 3 day weekend is tough to beat.

Hey Squonk, please tell me you won't be in Lansing the weekend of July 10?? If you are, I won't be able to meet up with you and Mrs. Squonk!! We're leaving on the 9th to head up to the U.P. to do some camping for a week. Dude, I was so looking forward to meeting you two and hanging out at the car show with you! Dang it!!!!
Sorry, had to edit for the right date! Was thinking July but looking at the month of June when I posted.
