CD-R's May Not Last Long

Hopefully you have all those family photos backed up off your hard drive. Just a warning if you have all your family photo's stored on CD-R.

It seems that the longevity of CD-R's might only be two years. Especially when dealing with something as important as you family history in photo and video, it might be a good idea to re-burn them once in a while.

It looks like due to the way they work, CD-RW might be the better choice but here is the full article I got this from so you can read for yourself.

We used to use CDR's to back up jobs at work and have some that are 5 or 6 years old and still work fine but we are now using dvds.

speaking of obsolecence, has anyone heard of Hi-8 video players, and know if they are still even made?

The Hi-8's were kind of like the beta was to vhs. the vhs-c was kind of the replacement. The tape on the 8 was smaller and made it difficult to use an adapter on your regular vcr. the c was the same width tape as a vhs. I think they still make the tapes but not the player.

I knew that 5 years I spent in the alley behind Radio Shack would pay off...
