Update on Laura's back situation

It's not looking good, I just got off the phone with her, and the doctor has referred her to a neurosurgeon. Apparently, she has not just one, but numerous herniated discs, and her spine is narrowng. The doctor told her not to immediately think surgery yet, but it's looking more and more as though that may be her only option. *sigh*

Mel - sorry about the situation. Let's hope that there is a way to turn things around. You know that thoughts and prayers are with you guys and the family.

MN,  I have the same thing, where the spine narrows.  It is an osteoarthritis condition compounded by stenosis and degenerative disc disease.  What else can go wrong. I have had one surgery and and putting off an additional surgery.  But, I choose to live a fairly active life and work through the pain.  The only thing that worries me is that if I feel like this in my 40's what is my 70's going to be like.  Hopefully by that time they will have perfected the disc surgery to implant new discs.

I just joined a Pilates class that specializes in back problems.  I don't know much about Pilates, but the instructor tells me that I am going to work on the muscles behind the other muscles.  She swears its going to make all the difference.  I will keep you posted.

I wish her the best Mel.

Our sitter just had disc surgery. She was unable to take kids for two months but she is back now by having some teenagers come in to help her with lifting things and such.

She's gradually doing better and says that she's glad she did it so far.

Mel,

You both just hang in there. You got a huge group of people praying for you both. With a little help from the guy upstairs things will work out ok and her situation won't be too severe.
