I have a question. As you all know, I have two daughters. We are not having anymore children. Pregnancy was very hard on my wife and both my wife and daughters would have died in childbirth, both times, had we not been living in modern medicine times, but that is another story.
People always ask me if I regret not having a son. The one that really gets me is the idiots that say, 'so your wife could not give you a son'. Just kills me since it up the father.
If anyone only has sons, or daughters, do you get comments like this and how do you deal with it. Do you have wishes for a son or daughter.
It is funny that you say that because my hubby and I were talking about that last night. He has a girl, I have a boy and we have a girl, so in other words, he does not have a son.
He said that he is done trying and that even if it were not for my son, he is ok. My son has become like a son to him this summer, because he was forced to work with him all summer. But that aside, he said that kind of thing does not bother him. His last name won't be carried on though, his only brother is gay, but he still says so be it.
God gave him two girls and that is more than some people have
Maybe its because I have daughters and a really smart wife. I wanted to give my children middle names. She insisted not. She has instructed the girls, as she did for herself, that when married, their maiden name becomes the middle name.
I have wondered what it would be like to have a son, but I have nephews. The one spends quite a bit of time here at my house. He is 16 months. I am glad I stopped at two.
For me it didn't really matter either way. My wife and I decided we didn't want to know whether we had a boy or a girl until birth.
We have decided we only want one child as my wife and daughter almost died as well.
The only thing I am dissapointed in is the continuence of my last name and blood line.
My brother is adopted but just recently had a son so the name will continue but the blood line wont. I don't know if that is really that big of a deal. What do you think?

I don't know how I feel. Don't get me wrong. I adore my daughters. I was in the bank today with my youngest and got the how many children question with the, oh, you don't have any sons comment. I don't think it matters. I do know that even if I were guaranteed a son, I would not go thru the tough pregnancy and childbirth thing again. I cannot imagine what it would have been like to lost my wife and child had they been born 50 years ago or longer.
My brother has two sons, the rest of my nephews are from my sisters.
I am so glad that neither of your wives died at childbirth. Even tho I dont have kids I wish sometimes I did. My father has 2 more kids after me so the name and blood line will continue but they wont be a part of me. I have not spoken to these kids or my father since 1994. My father disowned me when he found out about my sexuality and for me that is ok. He was a horrible man that thought getting laid was more important than raising a family.
I think no matter what sex your child is that you cherish the moments with them and enjoy the enrichment that they bring to your life.
I think Children are a beautiful thing and enjoy them to the max.
Part of the reason we waited until later in life is because of a disease called "Huntingtons". My grandfather had it. This is a nervous disorder disease that if your parent has it, you have a 50% chance of having it too. It usually starts to show up about age 40-50.
My dad is 64 now and has never shown any signs of having the disease. His only sister (my aunt) is 11 years younger than he is and certainly has it. She's having lots of trouble with it now.
So, it looks like our son is safe from getting the disease because if my dad doesn't have it, I and my son shouldn't either. My aunt has one son who is about 10 now. He has a 50% chance of getting it from her. Time will tell.
My great aunts and uncles mostly had girls, so in my family's direct blood/name line, it is down to only three boys to carry it on. My brother's son, my aunt's son, and our son.
If my aunt's boy does not have Huntingtons then it will end in our family with us. I hope he doesn't have it for his sake and to stop it.
So, what's that mean to me? I am glad for our "family name" that we had a boy. For myself, it didn't matter one bit. We actually thought our son was going to be a girl. The lady running the ultra sound thought so too. lol
If we had a girl rather than a boy, I don't think I would even think about it.
when my future wife and I got pregnent , the only thing that mattered to me was - she was healthy and so was our child . anything after that was secondary, as for peoples comments -shrug and think of the money you'll save on Christmas cards ! (there dolts , what else- short of killing them -can you do ?)
