The Automotive Grave Yard!!

OK!!!! IF you go through cars the way most people go through tooth-brushes, this will not be too good of  a thread for you unless you have certain favorites.

That being said, WHAT IS YOUR HISTORY WITH THE AUTOMOBILE!!?? YOUR FIRST CAR TO THE ONE YOU ARE IN NOW??

THe first car I was driving was something called a Granada. A great car. the front seats were not bucket, but connected, although the seat backs were individual for driver and passanger. So like if you were at a drive-in, you could hop in back, scoot the front seats forward, and then tilt the seats forward so the back seat of this little 2 door car became like a OK I STOP NOW.

Next car was an '84 Renault Alliance bought my senior year '88. I had that car until 1993; it died with 173,000 miles on it; I would probably still have it; but I am certain that my girlfriend at the time drove it to her best friends house never shifting it out of first gear. for like 60 miles. So when I finally got to it to find out for real if "I THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG" was for real, and started the engine, the engine caught fire and so did my hair. The mechanic that I pushed the car too, by hand, could just laugh and say "it is done."

Next car was probably a hot 77 t-bird, that until a few years ago I still got parking tickets for. That car was bad news from day one. Nice body, nice interior, but about the 4th time a swat team pulled me over; I knew it was time to scrap this.

Next car was an 84 Firebird with T-TOPs. This was about 1992. I LOVED this car. I, to this day, have never had such a powerful engine respond to such little push on the petal. I loved the t-tops. If one part of the state was hot and sunny, and another part cooler with clouds, I could drive with the t-tops off and feel that atmospheric change as it happened. I buried that car and still miss it!

Next was my brand spanking new 94 ford escort! I drove it off the lot with 6 miles on it! Right across from the lot is a drag strip (till this day) and I just opened this car up. I got pulled over at 84 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. AND I WAS ABLE TO TALK MY WAY OUT OF THE TICKET!! "I AM SORRY, I TOOK IT BACK HERE CUZ I KNEW THERE WOULD BE NO TRAFFIC...I WORK RIGHT OVER THERE; THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR...." AND I NOT ONLY DID NOT GET A TICKET; I ALMOST GOT A BLESSING TO CONTINUE MY SPEEDING! NO LIE!

This car was a good reliable car. never gave me any grief whatsoever! sure there were the regular maintenance issues, but it simply came time that the car was no longer reasonably serviciable without ordereing "rare parts". WHat I thought might be a $250 exhaust system replacement became a $500 quote because "that exhaust netting was unique to that year, and is hard to find..........." So I took that $500, along with the trade in value for the Escort; and now have a Mazda 3. I bought this in February of this year- have yet to figure out the radio presets; just figured out its a 6-cd player; I can just keep on feeding cds up till 6. I have yet to sit in the back seat of this car.......

here! this is JDS CAR BLOG! next!

#1: 77 Buick Century, named USS Slug (it was a boat and an ugly gray color). It lasted an hour. The engine overheated, water from the steam mixed in with the oil, the engine seized.

#2: 82 Olds Cutlass Supreme. It was this blue green color that always looked different, so I named it Louie after the Budweiser commercial. I loved this car. It lasted about 9 months. I bought it for $600. It had it's share of problems, so when I was offered a good running van for $200, I retired Louie.

#3: Frankenstein T Van. I don't even remember the make. I do remember the back of the van well though! I bought this van about the same time my husband and I really started dating. The first time I took it out for a ride the transmission started acting up. It lasted about 2 months before I had to give it up.

#4: Quatro, 86 Cutlass. Another car that I loved. But I wrecked it on a snowy day.

#5: Aldo Nova, my red 73 Nova. It looked hot, but it had a sunroof, all the seals on the windows had worn away, and it would shake if I went over 45. I drove it until my parents were ready to sell their car, then I traded them for it.

#6: 92 Chevy Lumina, simply named Lumina. I moved 200 miles away from my mechanic, so when the starter or alternator went out on me, I said screw it, I'm getting a real car.

And now I have a 99 Saturn 3 door coupe. I love it! Sure, I'm making payments on it, but it's reliable, and it's worth it. Oh, and it's named Pleasantly Blue,

My first pickup I bought with my own money when I was a Sr. It was a '75 Chevy 1/2 ton. I drove the wheels off that thing. High school to tech school and home every weekend then the first couple years of working.

I traded that pickup for a '79 El Camino Super Sport. I worked on that one a bit. It had a high lift cam, sport intake and carb. It had 10" wide tires on the back and posi-track rear end. It was fun to get on it a little and light 'em up in the shift from 1st to 2nd.

I got tired of working on the El Camino all the time so I traded that in for a brand new '90 Mazda 4wd pickup. I still have that.

My wife had an '81 Cavalier in high school. That got traded for an 85 Mercury Cougar which was traded for a new '93 Mazda 626 which we still have.

Two monts ago I traded a 90 Astro cargo van with 250k I used for work for a '94 Astro van which is now our newest vehicle! lol

Not too exciting here. I do miss the El Camino though. That was a fun car/truck.

First car in 1985 was a 1985 Buick Regal- wrecked it the first night. Drove to the movie store in the snow and this guy backed into me and then drove off! My dad fixxed the car and then sold it- no new car for me!

Then a 1984 Buick Skylark, it was my dad's. I wrecked it three times! He then gave me $2000 and said buy what you want with it.

I found a 1976 anniversary issue Trans Am. It was the bomb, but he made me sell in three months later when we moved here It was black with t-tops! I loved it and it hauled butt! It got me lots of looks!

When we moved here, he bought me a red convertible Mustang, 1985, I think.

It died and I got a 1992 Geo Storm, brand new.

I could not afford it and my dad paid it off and gave it to my bro

I got a 1977 Mercury Monarch. It was big, but only cost $500 and had a/c.

It died and my dad got me a Geo Metro. I sold it when I got pregnant and my stepmom gve me her 1995 Buick Regal (back full circle!) I drove it until it died on a hill, at a stop light, on a Friday night at 5!

I then bought my current van! 2002- it is paid for now and I will drive it til it dies. I love it!

I am jelaous JD.  I loved the firebirds and trans ams with the T- tops.

My first car i bought from my parents, while in high school  It was a chevy impala.  That car sucked.  I hated it.

After leaving home, and the car--i got a 74 Satellite Sebring--and I loved this car.  It had so much power- i called it the beast becasue the odometer had 666 on it when I got it.  I drove this car into the ground.

Next was an 84 Nissan Stanza--

Then my dream truck--toyota 4X4 with the roll bars, kc lights--sigh.  I had to get rid of that one becasue I needed a family car, the car seat just would not work--i could only shift from first to third then fifth.  We just paid off my wife's mustang and I could not afford two car payments so I traded my truck in. She got the family sedan and I took over the 88 Mustang.

I drove the mustang into the ground--then bought a Mazda B3000-

Traded that in a year later for a B4000

That's when I fell in love with the Highlander--and I get a new highlander every year.  I don't think I will this time--I love my car--with its leather seats, wood trim, jbl speakers, navigation system, dvd--awsome power.  I can pull my wave runners through the mountain pass to lake powell without even knowing that I am pulling them.
