My Dad was never into sports or hunting but was into cars and hot rods. Therefore I have an interest in cars and rods and will occasionally watch sports.
There is a lot of sports nuts here, did your parents like sports or did something else turn you on to it? What about your other hobbies?

My dad taught me racket ball, which I played up through college, and took up again about 4 yrs ago. Me and a couple of buddies try and play 2-3 times a week during the winter. Its a great work out and a lot of fun, but I am afraid I might have to give it up one of these years. The old knees just don't like it anymore.

My parents never played sports. My father would watch football and some baseball. I do not know where my sports actually came from. It must have arisen more out of my playing. That was the gift God gave me so I do my best to utilize it.

I will say that the love of baseball came from my folks. I played a little, but the whole going to the ballpark experience is what I mean here.
I love miller park, but it was tough to see County Stadium go. It was the one last "big" thing in town that had remained the same since childhood. When Hank Arron walked out in his uniform for the closing ceremonies, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. That was awesome, and it really hit home just what a rich tradition the stadium had.

My dad was a very involved dad (well, as much as he could be and be in the military). My dad was all-time pitcher when played baseball and kickball. All the kids in the neighborhood would come to our house to play a game of one or the other at night before it got dark. It was so much fun and one of the greatest memories. I still love to play those because of him. My mom is a badminton fan and we played that with her.
I'm a big hockey nut, but my parents aren't. My husband was the influence there.
I love John Wayne movies because of my dad. I love dancing the waltz because of my mom. So many things, I can't type them all. I love my parents. I am truly blessed to have them as parents. They were the "cool" parents when I was growing up, but they didn't try to be my best friend. They were (and are) just right.

Growing up on a ranch, I guess my parent's hobby was their work.
I don't remember my dad ever having a real hobby. He was either working or resting from working.
I remember very clearly my dad playing football with my brother and I once. I suppose I remember it so well because it was only that one time. My dad always expected my brother and I to be in sports, and they made it to every football game, and most track meets, but spent no time with us in helping us get better at sports.
My mom always raised a HUGE garden then canned food all fall. I think she kind of enjoyed the gardening but the canning was just something she had to do to save money on food. She had a lot of animals that she raised that really didn't contribute to the financial benefit of the ranch so I guess those were her hobby too.
When I was 11, my brother and I put our money together and bought our first dirt bike. When I was bored or wanted to get out of work for a while, I'd get on that and go ride. With all our own land and the neighbors didn't care, there was always lots of fun places to explore back in the hills. That was probably my biggest hobby at that time.
After a pretty bad wreck with the bike, that ended the riding where they didn't know where I was.
We were always in 4-H. My brother loved it . . . I didn't hate it, but mainly just did it becasue selling the 4-H stock at the end of the summer was pretty good money for a kid . . . and it was expected of me.
Most of my hobbies all started after moving out and getting married. I can't say that any of the things that I've been into came from my parents though.
The rest of my hobbies mostly come from my uncle or my dad. Since my dad moved 100 miles away when I was about 7, my uncle was like my dad to me. I get my love for art from him (he's an awesome pencil artist), and probably some of my talent too. And a lot of the things I like directly stem from his influences. (Hell, I even dated one of his friends once. That was a bad idea.) My love for video games and technology definately comes from my dad. And the crafty part of me, sewing and such, comes from my mom.
I was just reminded of this by someone going on vacation this weekend here at work. ANother thing my dad loved and instilled in me is waterskiing. I bet I have not gone in 5 yrs now, but that is an absolute ball. He tried to have me and my brother up and skies since we were 5 yrs old. Think I finally got the hang of it at age 8, and loved it ever since.
I have this great video tape of me wiping out from back in 1991- it looks like the agony of defeat guy, except on water, not ice!

My dad gave me my fanatical love of Chicago teams, my skills as a "DIY", and my affinity for martinis. My sense of responsability and involvement came from both folks, as well as my passion for the stage. That one surprised them because they are not actors, but they gave me my first exposure to stage work.
