What is the scariest movie you ever saw and why? For me it was the Exorcist...they have another exorcism movie coming out next month. Do you believe in demonic possession? Do you believe in Satan?
I would say I was probably the most creeped out by The Ring. I always critique the blood and stuff on the gory type movies, so it's really the creep out factor that gets to me the most.
I do believe there is a hell and fire and brimstone somewhere beneath us.
for me the creepiest movie I ever saw was Poltergeist. I do love a good slasher flick and watch I spit on your Grave, Friday the 13th, Sleepaway camp, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream. Jaws. you name it. I love it. Now not to say that they dont make me barf but as far as just plain creepy it is Poltergeist. Although I can say the Blair Witch Project spooked me and I did not get the ending ( the gal running down the stairs to see her friend standing in the corner turned away and then she gets knocked out. ) until 3 days after saw the movie.
Slasher movies don't scare me, but do what they are entitled. Thriller. So much of it is predictable--you can tell by the musical score, lighting etc when the next murder is going to happen.
I saw the original Amityville Horror and Excorcist. ONCE. These two shows did make me uneasy becasue I do believe in not only a higher power, but in His oposition.
There was a film called "Prince Of Darkness" that had Alice Cooper in it that was scary. Also Cape Fear with Dinero was scary. Both of them films ruined those nights. Instead of wanting to go out after the films, I just wanted to go home.

If it was I don't remember that part Mz. A lot of it happened in a church basement, as I recall. This was years ago 1989-90? I just remember the bad spooked out vibe that we were left with.

JD, I forgot about Cape Fear. I walked out on that movie I felt so uncomfortable. Isn't that the one that starts with the brutal rape scene? I could not watch that scene--got up and walked out.
there was a brutal rape scene somewheres in it CP- in fact a couple I think. There was just nothing to like in that movie at all. Its like its whole motive was to just freak people out and send them home.

I remember Prince of Darkness - that was a creepy movie - and I'm pretty sure Alice Cooper was the lead street person in it - they became possessed and drawn to the cathedral. Nope, no theater in that one - there was a big cylinder of green goo in the basement that was supposed to be pure evil. Good movie.
My favorite horror flick is The Shining. I couldn't believe later that King didn't like it... apparently he felt Jack looked psycho from the get-go and that wasn't the premise of the book. But it's definitely my favorite.
The scariest, meaning the one I won't watch again, is Hellraiser. I actually met the guy who played Pinhead over the weekend, he was one of the actors doing signings. Very obviously a real nice guy!
Oh, and Dylan, the lady who does that real quick face shot in The Exorcist was there too. Very obviously her claim to fame.
"Halloween" is still the scariest movie I can remember. Camera angles, faceless killer, simple but creepy music, it had it all.
And yes, I do believe that Satan is real and that possesions have and can happen. These days, however, I think the movie representations of demons and evil are just as much a tool of Satan as any real possesion. We watch stories of exreme evil and say, "See, THAT'S bad. That is what evil is. My life is OK." A very dangerous over confidence, it leaves a breach in our defenses.
