Give me a break!!!

Once again I am outraged by the stupdity of some people. Do we really have nothing better to do than complain about everything!! I am not puttung down obese people, I know that weight loss is vey difficult. But for this lady to formally complain and then the board's actions are ridiculous! The truth hurts!!!

Woman Offended by Doc's Obesity Advice
By Associated Press

ROCHESTER, N.H. - As doctors warn more patients that they should lose weight, the advice has backfired on one doctor with a woman filing a complaint with the state saying he was hurtful, not helpful.

Dr. Terry Bennett says he tells obese patients their weight is bad for their health and their love lives, but the lecture drove one patient to complain to the state.

"I told a fat woman she was obese," Bennett says. "I tried to get her attention. I told her, 'You need to get on a program, join a group of like-minded people and peel off the weight that is going to kill you.' "

He says he wrote a letter of apology to the woman when he found out she was offended.

Her complaint, filed about a year ago, was initially investigated by a panel of the New Hampshire Board of Medicine, which recommended that Bennett be sent a confidential letter of concern. The board rejected the suggestion in December and asked the attorney general's office to investigate.

Bennett rejected that office's proposal that he attend a medical education course and acknowledge that he made a mistake.

Bruce Friedman, chairman of the board of medicine, said he could not discuss specific complaints. Assistant Attorney General Catherine Bernhard, who conducted the investigation, also would not comment, citing state law that complaints are confidential until the board takes disciplinary action.

The board's Web site says disciplinary sanctions may range from a reprimand to the revocation of all rights to practice in the state.

"Physicians have to be professional with patients and remember everyone is an individual. You should not be inflammatory or degrading to anyone," said board member Kevin Costin.

Other overweight patients have come to Bennett's defense.

"What really makes me angry is he told the truth," Mindy Haney told WMUR-TV on Tuesday. "How can you punish somebody for that?"

Haney said Bennett has helped her lose more than 150 pounds, but acknowledged that she initially didn't want to listen.

"I have been in this lady's shoes. I've been angry and left his practice. I mean, in-my-car-taking-off angry," Haney said. "But once you think about it, you're angry at yourself, not Doctor Bennett. He's the messenger. He's telling you what you already know."

Nothing new here Ruby.

It was only a few years ago McDonalds was being sued by a couple people that said their food made them fat. As if a gun was held to their head to down the big macs.

It's a society that loves to sue, and doesn't want to feel bad about themselves, even if what's being said is true.

Sueing is a great way to make money. Plus you have the great feeling of walking around telling people about how you were victimized because your feelings were hurt.

Get off the couch and stop eating Cheetos lady and Do some walking!!!!

You are the only one who can change but help is always great.

The only thing I can figure he might be wrong on is how he told her - was he sitting talking politely or  was he talking down (?) to her . either way I'd throw the case out and fine her for wasting the courts time . if she don't like him ,dont go back . case closed . next..

Yeah, I read that yesterday and thought it was ridiculous. I can't believe anyone is actually taking it seriously. If your doctor can't tell you how to live healthy and your medical state, who can!

The fact that he told her the truth should be enough. Was her family going to sue if she died from complications of being overwieght too if the doctor never told her the risks? Please. You can pussyfoot around this stuff. What a waste.

Some people will do anything for a buck. And others wonder why doctors are leaving the profession over insurance premiums.

The doctor should have approached her and said, uh, ma'am you have something on your chin....no your other chin....

So this lady had her feelings hurt? Where can I send my smypathy card. That doctor should be taken out and horse whipped. How dare he consult her about her obese nature.
He should have just patted her on the shoulder and said everything will be all right. Give her a perscription for a couple of pills and send her on her way. Obviously that is all she wanted.
AAAAUUUURRRRGGGGG!!!!

Why waste the doctors time if you aren't going to do something about it. Quit whining. Get off your fat *ss and change your life.

This is just the stupid kind of stuff that keeps real progress from being made.

I am on the other side of the fence on this one.   Some doctors have absolutely no bedside manner.   I have a friend (guy) who is on the large side and diabetic.   His doctor is very rude and condescing to him.   My friend has to be dragged to DR by his wife or he would never go. (and yes, he is trying to find a new Doctor bit now he has a hatred of the whole profession)

Doctor's have sworn an oath to do no harm and they must realize that by belittling and being deliberately hurtful they can do harm to a patient.  The doctors office is a stressful place without having the doctor upsetting you more with unprofessional comments.

It sounded like in that article that the doctor realized he had been wrong and wrote a letter of apology.

I think that most people realize if they are overweight. Shopping for clothes is a dead giveaway... if you are shopping in a department that is called plus, you should be thinking about subtracting.

Doctor should be noting the facts, and offering options and encouraging the patient to improve his or her health...

Isn't the rule for woman, if your dress size is bigger than your shoe size, you have an issue?
