What jazz trumpet icon was heralded as the 'Prince of Darkness' to media hounds and music critics, none of whom could seem to break the ice in their interviews with this master?

Two for two! JD has found his quiz calling!

Name the alto saxophonist behind the landmark 1959 release, 'The Shape of Jazz to Come,' quite possibly the most forward-looking album of its decade.

Not that I know of, but my dad listens to it, so I might have! Did you know that he recorded an album 29 years later and featured Jerry Garcia on three tracks??

This British guitarist, prior to forming 'Mahavishnu Orchestra,' grew up on the violin, traveled as a bluesman, and worked with Miles Davis extensively.

here the question tho is answered by John McGlauclan. I am spelling that wrong. But he was Mile's guitar player forever! On bitches brew!! Miles even wrote a song called John McGlaglan. I feel bad I am spelling his name wrong.

Correct again. It is John McLaughlin. You truly are the Jazz doctor!

I read the album with Garcia on it is called Virgin Beauty.

This incredible percussionist, if we were to apply sports terms, could be called the greatest 'scout' in the history of jazz, recruiting such talents as Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, and Lee Morgan during his tenure as one of the 'Jazz Messengers.'

'A Love Supreme' is a prayer inspired by one man's dedication to his faith after overcoming addiction. Who was this saxophonist?

this is too easy!!!!!!!!!!!! John Coltrane. A most amazing recording!! the FIRST album that was no longer about individual tracks, but the whole work start to finish!! I had this on casette and cd for years, but this past winter, I chanced upon the record album of this and just about wept for joy. The best way I can find to describe this album is to picture taking a week off from work, but spending that week in your home town. It is summer, it is wednesday afternoon, it is raining, but you are walking around window shopping as the rest of the world is on its busy way. it is a wednesday afternoon rain album. I love that album. Its a prayer beyond words.

Quite possibly the most talented man every to play the instrument that most observers would call a xylophone without hesitation, this member of the Modern Jazz Quartet became the centerpiece of their playful but complex compositions as a vibraphone maestro.

And before I go to bed, can JD recoup???

This short-live bassist's complexity aroused the passions of many fusion fans in the 70's with 'Weather Report.' He evolved through solo performances in the 80's but was lost early.
