A Good Kind of Cry

Sometimes, crying is good.  Sometimes sadness is necessary to bring joy to your life.  Or sometimes something is so beautiful it makes you cry.

What are some videos/stories, etc that make you cry?

Sunday night this was on PBS.  It brought tears to my eyes, but when I turned to look at Brian, he was full out crying.  I love my husband, not only because he gets sentimental at the right times, but in this case, because of the particular story it tells.

I've told you this before, but it really is true. If I listen to Tim McGraw's "Don't Take The Girl" when I'm alone, and REALLY listening to the lyrics, it gets me to tear up almost every time.

The same can happen for Poison's "Something to Believe In". The part about the Vietnam Vet who came back from fighting a losing war on a foreign shore to find his country didn't want him back always gets to me. I remember my Dad telling me stories about being spit on when he got off the plane coming home from Vietnam and being told he was a baby killer. That song makes me think of that.

Me too.  But at least I like the song.

And I hate the Christmas Shoes song.  It's not a genre I like, and it's so contrived, but it tears me up every time.  It came on the radio the other morning while I was putting on my makeup, and I almost had to wash my face and start over.

Jim Henson brightened so many children's lives.  It's sad that he's gone, but it makes me appreciate what he did while he was alive so much more.

I've posted this one before, but I can't make it through to the end of Big Bird singing It's Not Easy Being Green without crying.

Wow. That's a fantastic story. Thanks for sharing it MZ.

Even the broadcast seems like it was meant to be a part of their life, with the letters coming in and her being able to use them to replace his letters.

I wouldn't be surprised if she takes her final breath on the day she reads the last remaining letter.

Very, very cool.

I'd never heard the Christmas Shoe's song until I was at my Mom's a few weeks ago and she had the Lifetime Network on.

They had back to back movies based on the song.  It starred some of my favorite people (Kimberly Williams, Neil Patrick Harris, etc).

Normally I'm a sucker for sap, but those two movies were mostly horrible.  I told my Mom afterwords that it was like a four hour advertisement for suicide.  They were just depressing movies where everyone's life sucks and it was obvious they were trying WAY to hard to pull your heartstrings.

There's another couple that I wish I could find, but I'm not sure what to search for. They're both of veterans coming home. One is a montage of veterans surprising their families, and the other is a dog greeting his owner back from the war.

That's the impression that I get from the song too.  It was obviously written just to make you cry.  Instant classic and all that.  Which makes me even madder when it works.

I just had tears this morning. I mentioned that "Fro" guy in the other thread. His current video post at froknowsphoto.com is a personal one. He talks about his hair and why it is what it is, and how it relates to his mother being sick.

Having lost my own mom to cancer, his story really got to me.
