Music Milestones

It was on this day in 1967 that the British government bought advertising space in UK newspapers to explain why they had outlawed pirate radio. The main reason they gave was the pirates were interfering with ship-to-shore radio. Some of the pirates, like Tony Blackburn, went to work for the BBC's new pop channel, Radio 1.

John and Yoko appeared on the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon on this day in 1972.

On this day in 1984, country music star Ernest Tubb died at the age of 70. The "Texas Troubador" had been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1943. One of his biggest hits was "I'm Walking the Floor Over You."

The Pittsburgh Steelers were banned from practicing on their own field, Three Rivers Stadium on this day in 1989 because........the Rolling Stones were rehearsing for their upcoming concert.........
