About a week ago web turned the website back on and yesterday I started broadcasting an auto-program of 80's tunes.
I wanted to post something here so nobody stumbled upon the station and thought "WHAT THE HELL!?!?!? WHY DIDN'T HE TELL US?"
I'm bringing this station back as a hobby because I miss it. I miss having a reason to keep up on the newest music among other things. Plus the price was right, it's less than $10 a month to run it with a limit of only 5 listeners.
I'm not asking for anyone to tune in. You're of course welcome to if you want to, but it is an eighties / AC / Top 40 station now. It will never be the FFR you knew and loved. The playlist is simple, if I like it I play it. With a limit of only 5 listeners I'm perfectly content with the possibility that I might be the only one tuned in while I work at night.
Right now the station is auto-programmed. In a short while I'll be set up for live broadcasting again and could take limited requests, but I don't expect to bring the auto-request system back.
I don't know if this will last for 3 months or 30 years. Though I'd love to be playing the music I love just for the fun of it when I'm 70 years old and retired.
At least now that it's on-air again, we could occasionally have a day where the old station is back for a reunion with the full playlist and possibly the request system.
While this is a hobby, if down the road I'm consistently selling out I'd happily upgrade to 10 listeners. It's just nice not having to pay for a bunch of unused slots like I used to.
Guys, PLEASE don't get too excited. I assure you you'll be bored with this playlist in two days!
I'm thrilled you have tuned in, but I suspect the new Freeze-Frame Radio is the type of station you listen to for an hour or two once in awhile when you feel the need for an 80's fix.
Especially right now with only 1000 songs. There are HUGE holes in the playlist because I'm limited to about 1200 on the server.
When it's live again at least ALL the 80's songs will be there, and AC / Pop hits from the other decades.
I was really leary about announcing this because I know this is nothing you can't hear on a thousand other internet stations. What made the old FFR truly unique was that it had something for everyone and the listeners built the playlist.
But like I said yesterday, I also didn't want you to check the website one day or do a web search and find it and think I was hiding it from you.
Why do you think we're volunteering up our spots? Right now it's just the novelty of listening to the same thing together. When I get sick of it, I'll switch back to Slacker that I paid for. But for now, I'm getting a list of songs to include in my Slacker station that I don't already have.

Good.
We'll always be good for reminding you about that 80's song you forgot about.
Yay! I really missed the station. Like MzH said -- there's just something about listening to the same thing together. Another thing, I don't think the station plays the same old everthing that we hear on other stations -- I quite frequently find myself thinking, "Wow! I haven't heard that one in a while!" or "That was one of my favorite songs, but didn't get much airtime (back then)."
It's wierd, but I'm happier (and not so homicidal) when I get to listen to Freeze-Frame Radio.

Freeze-Frame has just become comfort food.
I was busy this weekend, but next weekend I should get around to bringing the playlist back up to a respectable level.
