I got a recommendation from my sister last night to watch BURIED with Ryan Reynolds, so I stopped at Redbox this morning and got it. Just finished watching it.
Wow. Kudo's to him for pulling off a very hard concept. He's buried alive in Iraq, and not one second of the movie takes place outside of the pine box he's buried in. I watched it and I still can't believe it.
I remember what a big deal they made about the job Tom Hanks did in that movie where he was stranded on an island (the name escapes me) because he had to be on screen essentially the entire movie. Well try being on screen in a casket for 90 minutes Mr. Hanks!
We've only had one snow storm -- last week -- and it wasn't anything to write home about. I really feel bad for those getting hit hard. Hope Fuzzy stayed home today.

Actually, yes. I've been getting better, I do much better riding in elevators now. But if I feel like I can't easily get outside, I start to get jittery. I think that's one of the reasons I don't do well in crowds, I feel confined. That's one of my issues with the grocery store too.
Mrs Web is quite claustrophobic. There is NO WAY she could watch that movie. She's ok being confined in a room, not a small space. One thing I don't understand . . . she can swim, stay under water for a good long time and that's not a problem. Throw a blanket over her head for 3 seconds and she comes out gasping for air like she was just about to suffocate.
We're looking at a couple nice days! It's 37 now, high of 43 and high of 49 tomorrow! Then back to the 30's and teens on Monday.

I'm exactly the same way. Well, not exactly, I have to wear nose plugs underwater, but I can't stand to have a blanket over my nose. I can't do scarves over my nose and mouth either. When I do put a blanket over my head (usually only if I'm really cold), I keep a clear space around my nose so I can breathe fresh air.
Morning all. It's a snow day here. No power loss for me. I'm out in the suburbs. We got quite a bit of snow. There is at least 12"out there. I'm finally getting ready for snow removal duty. Fun fun.
And yes, I'm staying home all day. I'll do some work later.

Oh, sorry Mz. I take back the giggle. I'm not claustrophobic, so I can't relate. So, just watching a movie of someone else in a confined space causes those with claustrophobia to feel claustrophobic? That is interesting...
I don't like creepy crawlies like spiders or snakes either, but I don't know that it would qualify as a phobia.
I don't do crowds either. My kids say that Mr. DS and I are antisocial. That's not really the case, we just prefer small groups.

It's more about getting too into the movie and relating to the character. If it's good, then yes, I'll feel claustrophobic. It's the same as movies that make you cry.

Yeah... I realized that after I wrote it out. Why wouldn't it be the same, right?
Then I got to thinking... There's a movie (maybe in theaters now) called The Rite, and I like supernatural movies and I'd like to see it, but it's one of those movies I won't watch because I'd be way to scared -- I think it is some deep seeded trauma of being brought up Catholic. I won't watch Rosemary's Baby either -- I know just trying to explain it sounds totally stupid -- it's ok LOL if you must

You know, I've never seen Rosemary's Baby. I need to rectify that. That makes me a bad horror movie fan. I need to look up The Rite, I also love supernatural movies, that sounds like one I'd like.
Good day, all. It is sunny and warmer here today. Presently 34*, supposed to make it up into the low 40's later. Tomorrow is supposed to also be near 50* here.
It has been another busy one since I got in today. At the moment I'm listening in on another testing call (continuation of yesterday) and still working on another project I've been working on for the last week... should have it finished today. Also had a brief meeting with the boss to go over my annual review. Summarized in a sentence: I'm a ROCKSTAR. Still getting a bit screwed by the whole Jack Welch stack ranking and enforced percentages thing, and apparently my aspirations for my raise were quite high. I thought the pool would be 2.5%. More like 1%. Still, that is better than 0%. Guess I can't complain. I won't get my final rating and so forth until Monday... won't see a raise if any until maybe March.
I believe I've only experienced one claustrophobic experience, so I can't really say if that is something I suffer or not. Crowds don't generally bother me, but I avoid them as a matter of preference. Not a fan of the creepy crawlies. Don't like snakes. Clowns really irritate me. I'm not afraid of them, they just make me angry.
I think I've seen Rosemary's Baby, but that would have been years ago. The Rite looks interesting. I've seen the commercials for it, and Anthony Hopkins usually makes really good movies.
JR... the Tom Hanks movie is Castaway.
Fuzzy... good luck with the snow removal. Glad to hear you still have power.
Mz, Web, and DS... have a great day!

Okay, the snow has been removed from places that must be free of snow. Good thing I have a neighbor with a snowblower. He does the heavy moving and I pay him in beer. I thought we had 14" of snow. The other neighbor said we made the news as the second highest total at 16.2". Lucky us.

We already knew that you were a rockstar M. Rumor has it they budgeted 3% for raises for us. We'll see though. They budgeted 2.5% last year and we got nothing.

I guess I'll just be happy if I get anything being as I haven't had any raise in the last 4 years.
Oh yeah... I stopped at a happy hour on the way home yesterday and ended up talking to a lady I sometimes work with who happens to be from India. I told her I'd be somewhere in the New Delhi area in either June or July and asked what it is like there that time of year. Her first response was, "HOT!"... then she thought about it a bit more and said, "It is also monsoon season right then. So it will be hot and wet with a lot of mosquitos." . OUT-FRIGGING-STANDING. Can it get ANY better than that? Nope... bring on the malaria pills.

I'm the same way DS! In fact, one of the previews on the Buried disc was for a movie called THE LAST EXORCISM. It looked REALLY, REALLY, CREEPY. I could never watch it though. I wouldn't sleep for weeks.
I've never seen Rosemary's Baby or the Exorcist either. Heck, I was LITERALLY checking my head for a 666 for about three months after I saw the OMEN as a child.
I'm just remembering watching The Exorcist for the first time. I was about 13 or 14, home alone at night. We still lived in my dad's house which sat out kind of by itself off a 2 lane highway. The closest neighbor's house (north east side) could be seen from the back window of the house... that place was occupied by a very elderly nun. The house itself was around 100 years old, and it belonged to it's neighbor on the other side which is a Catholic church (further to the east). Behind our house and to the west was a large, undeveloped field. In front of the house and across the highway was farm land. About a mile off to the west was a neighborhood that would best be described as "lower on the socio-economic scale" with lots of Hell's Angels hanging out there.
Anyhow... home alone, at night, in a thunderstorm... and Donald had a rule about not locking the doors. Seriously. If he caught you locking the doors there were nasty consequences. Don't think I slept for 3 days.

My parents had a lot of really weird and strict rules, but not locking the doors was definitely not one of them. Forgetting to lock myself in was more punishable.
Donald had some different theories on life. His stated reasoning for not wanting the doors locked was that if someone wanted to break in, it was a better idea to just let them walk in through the door. If you locked the doors, then someone might break a window or damage the door to get in, then you have to pay for that repair on top of whatever is stolen. In reality, I think he just never could remember which key went to the door locks.
We never had a break-in. It is not that the house might not have been an attractive target, it was more that everybody in town knew that Donald was heavily armed and not all that mentally stable. There was seriously at least one gun in every room of the house and he was almost always at home. It was so well known in fact that when my mom had to call the ambulance to get him to the hospital in the week before he died, the first responders refused to go into the house unless a family member went in first. That included the police officers who came with the ambulance.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I also have never seen the Exorcist, but my cousin did and she gave me the scene by scene. My parents were so mad because I kept them up for weeks with nightmares.
I generally don't have a problem with ghost movies only movies with priests, and the DEVIL! Probably because it was pounded in my head as a kid that ghosts should not be feared because they are not real (or are they?), but the devil is!
