It's our town "Homecoming" this week. Right now, I'm sitting here listening to the high school football game (11 man) on the local radio station (sorry FFR). It's just now half time. The home team is leading 10-0 with the last three points being a 25 yd. field goal by a kid that goes to our church. Now it's time for the anouncing of Homecoming King & Queen.
The fun thing is all the memories that come back when I think about all the games, friends, fun times, and sad times when I was playing. I think back about how important each game was. At the time, it seemed like life or death was on the line with the first kickoff of each game.
Ah, the memories. How little we really knew what life was about.
As I listen tonight, I hear a name mentioned and think "hey, that kid's dad is as old as me" . . . oh dear, I'm one of those "old men" now!
I went to a high school where sports, especially football, seemed more important than academics. And it was a school of 3000 kids. So, I don't have the game memories like that...
What a wonderful night of local football and reflection on the circle of life that brings, web!
I think that is the blessing of the march of time. When you are young and thinking about the mystery of life, you get abstract and think about things that seem so much bigger than you- the origins of the universe; the big grand scheme of things. When you get on, you realize its all right here. Here is the mystery too. Here is as amazing as that star in the sky. And the past that has led you to here and now is as mysterious as it is gone!

I miss those days. our High school band played the coronation andn watched the pretty girls in their pretty dresses get walked down the field by football players and they waited to see who got crowned
Cool, the home team won 24-0 and are now 3-0 for the season. Sounds like we have a pretty good team this year.
My brother told a funny story a couple weeks ago: My niece is in the band and my brother and family went to the game to listen/watch the band. They were sitting up in the stands and my brother turned to another guy that he knows and said "I remember when the OLD people used to sit up here in this section." The other guy's reply was "Yeah, I'm glad it's not that way any more!". LOL
Another 20 years, and those kids that are celebrating the homecoming win will one day be thinking about the big game. Now, all they are thinking about is the homecoming dance that will be starting in about an hour.
Now, I gotta practice bass for Sunday morning . . . I wish I would have started bass 20 years ago . . .
