So, what's your plan?

I'm sure a lot of people have been thinking lately, "If I was told to evacuate my house, what would I do?" If the roads were like they are in Texas, would you still try to drive?

Personally, if we couldn't get out by car, I would hoof it. We've got 3 rolling backpacks, and bags could pile on top of the backpacks as they rolled too. We've got kangaroo-type pouches, plus leashes, for the cats. And we've got non-rolling backpacks. So, we could pack up, pack a bunch of non-perishable foods up, pack the tent, and hike to an area where we may be able to find transportation out of there (like a horse!). It'd be hard, but I think we could do it.

I wouldn't wait. I'd get out once things started to get bad. Avoid the rush.

We had to leave about 4 years ago for Floyd. My husband took the backroads to Charlotte. We never hit any traffic, just went out of our way a little. It took us about 5 hours for a 4 hour drive. His exwife went to Columbia, which is an 1.5 hours away and it took her 24 hours taking the main interstate! Also we booked a hotel immediately before we left home, she did not and they had to sleep in their car. We went to Carowinds the next day!

PS It was a false alarm, but after Hugo, we do not take any chances here!
