I first heard of Heil microphones when I became a ham radio operator many years ago. I don't have a Heil mic, but I know they are well known in the radio world for their great sound quality.
I was watching "This Week In Tech" on Sunday and Leo mentioned that he was going to be starting a ham radio show with Bob Heil of Heil Sound. Of course I'm looking forward to that.
Leo is very good at generating interest in things before he launches them. On another show called "Triangulation" Leo and Tom are interviewing Bob Heil about how he got started. The end of the interview gets deeper into the tech of their microphone designs, but the first 30 minutes is nothing but Bob telling stories about how he got started and things he did for some big name bands, especially in the 70's when "big sound" was becoming important. He talks a lot about The Who, Frampton, Joe Walsh, etc. Bob built the "Talk Box" that Joe Walsh still uses today.
Anyway, Bob's stores are really cool. You need to have "Quicktime" on your computer to watch the video, but if you are interested, the video can be found here: http://twit.tv/tri8
