These people are nuts!

Arkansas Mother Gives Birth to 16th Child

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.

Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.

He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn't ready to make a formal announcement.

Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.

Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1.

That Duggar name sounds familiar. I think I saw a tv special on that family a year or so ago.

The special showed how they lived and got everything done. At the time, I think they had 14 and she was expecting #15. At the time of the special they were building a new house and doing most of the work themselves . . . I'm pretty sure its the same family.

I saw a little about this morning on the Today show. They are a nice looking family. The kids were all smiles and dressed very nicely. But I agree they are crazy. Birth control people! I do not know how they even find time to do "it"!!! They did not look poor though and I guess that if they can build a 7000 sq ft house, they are not!

My aunt and uncle have 11 kids and she never stopped cooking, cleaning or doing laundry!

I'd imagine the older kids probably help out with the cooking, cleaning, and raising the little ones. I mean, come on, Mom is obviously busy!

We have some relation that is from a family of 10 kids. She says that when they'd all get together struggling to all fit in one house, someone would almost always say "Mom, the problem is that you have too many kids".

Her answer was always to tell them to look around and decide which kid they wished she would have stopped at.

Why would you do that to yourself, your family and the kids? Love each other and children as you will, but the older kids are forced to take responsibility when they should still be kids. How the heck do you feed and clothe all these people? Nevermind how you pay for college and weddings. They have their own soccer team and two basketball teams. Oh my.

Be thankful we have these type of families around.

Otherwise we would have to come up with another topic to discuss.

I understand the Discovery Health Channel was there to document the kid walking out!

I think I heard they were pretty well off, like he was a state senator or something like that.

16 kids. aren't there zoning laws or laws of nature that apply here?!

Poor Web.

These are the people that keep that average family stat at 2.5 kids. It makes up for the childless couples.

I'm sure the parents are VERY religious. They probably do not believe in birth control and further believe it is their responsibility to be fruitful and multiply to whatever extent they can afford to.

Looking at the boys names many of them seem to have a biblical edge to them.

That is the reason that my aunt and uncle have 11 kids. Very strict Irish Catholic. My aunt died about 5 years ago and we always said that if the Pope ever okayed birth control, she would die of a heart attack!!

lol,

He probably wouldn't put it quite that way JD, but basically you hit the nail on the head.

If you're married, you're SUPPOSED to be fruitful. That's why they call the act procreation.

Ruby:

I can understand your aunts view. I'm Catholic, but I of course have my questions. I see no problem with a married couple using birth control. But the Pope SHOUDLN'T change the churches stand on the issue. If it was wrong 2000 years ago it's wrong now. I don't think God sits up there and says "well, times have changed, so what the hell, ignore that part of what I said".

I remember on the show about them that they are quite religious. Not "freaky - scare people away" kind of religious, but they where not afraid to let their faith show.

I thought it was tough with two girls.  I keep thinking about the wedding bills I am going to have in 10 years.

You know, kids from large families usually have large families of their own. Think of all the grandkids these people will have! How will they remember their names?

Actually Molly, at least in my case, all of the kids are childless or have two as a max. They were poor, lived on a farm in WI and the church supported their family as much as my uncle. They are very close, but they all wanted to give their kids a more "normal" life- whatever that is.

I agree Riggs about the Pope's position is not to change the view of the church on birth control. But then, how can you say you are a catholic and believe in birth control. It is a contradiction. I was raised a Catholic, but have switched to Episcopalian, because the two are very close, but their views on marriage and divorce are different. It fit me better. However, there are some that are now leaning towards homosexuality being ok and so they are evolving. My church is not leaning that way, but I think it shows that churches do change with time.

Man, my siblings and I all have names that start with P. There are only three of us. I can't tell you how many times I've been called Peter, Pam, PATRICIA! Could you imagine being the one at the bottom of the list? Your mom would be so tired by the time she got to your name she'd probably forget why she was yelling to begin with! There could be benefits to that.
