We live in a very small community and I always look to see who is on the list. I've shown it to my kids, along with their pictures and warned them never to talk to them. We've never had a problem with any kidnappings (knock on wood), but it never hurts to be too careful. Our last murder in the county was in 1993. We don't have a lot of crime where we live, but there are 6 registered sex offenders and I know them all by sight. It was good that we knew that, too, because my grandmother used to live in an apartment complex where one of them lived. I would not let my kids out to play while we visited her. No sense in putting temptation in their path. I don't want to spend the rest of my life in jail and I would if someone ever hurt my kids. Oooh, I'm so vicious. Well, I am when it comes to my kids and I know all you parents feel the same way.

I couldn't find the one that works by me, but I looked through the list and only recognized one name, and I already knew about that one, I used to work with him (he used to be a high school teacher and had relations with one of his students).

Now I'm looking up ones by where my 12 year old sister lives. I don't know if I really want to see that one or not though, she 200 miles away and I'll worry about her even more!

It never hurts to know. A few years ago I did a search and found that one of the bus stops on my son's bus route was in front of a predator's house. I called the school and the bus company and nothing got moved. Then I called a local news station and not only was the stop changed, but now they are required each year to check their list against the registry! I was a hero! That was my 15 minutes of fame- but I will take it!
