I have to share this email I just got from my uncle Jeff. This past weekend was the big family picnic at the park and he was responsible for getting all the ice (which is quite a bit since I think about 80 - 100 people attend this thing.

I mentioned this experience to a few of you at the picnic Saturday but I wanted to share this with all of you since it ranks right up there in the "NOW I'VE HEARD IT ALL" category.
I purchase the ice for the family picnic each year and Saturday I went to the SENDIK's near my home since it has, believe it or not, the cheapest ice around. Anyway since you need to pay before you get the ice I went to the checkout and asked for the number of bags I needed and was asked by the checkout lady if I wanted the regular ice or the "GOURMET ICE". I had to ask her to repeat herself since I couldn't believe someone would sell gourmet ice. She did repeat that and I asked her to explain and she said that the gourmet ice is made with 'spring water' and the cubes are larger so they melt slower. Needless to say I opted for the regular ice, being the regular guy that I am. Oh, and by the way, it's about twice as expensive.
So anyone interested in gourmet ice for next year's picnic I would urge you to purchase on your own from Sendik's (just don't say you know me)!
Sendik's is a local place that's kinda pricey usually. Very upper-crust kinda place to shop. They only have two locations and they're both in neighborhoods where the single family homes run you a minimum of about $250,000 I'd say.
It's good to know that I have gourmet ice cubes in my house. I don't drink the tap water, so naturally, I don't make my ice cubes with it. I make my ice with bottled water. I had no idea that I was so fancy having gourmet ice cubes.

You know it's funny. I buy bottled water but only like once every three months, then I refill the bottles with tap water that I run through a PUR Water Filter Pitcher.
But when I cook or make ice I still just use the tap water. Not sure why. I guess it's silly to only use the purified stuff for drinking.
You're right MZ. I've read more and more stories that a lot of the bottled water is actually just being taken right from the tap. One of the major brands, I forget which one, is actually just tap water.
When I first moved I tried running the tap water through the Britta filter but it still tasted awful. I gave up and started with the bottled spring water. And not the reverse osmosis water either.

I've been really pleased with my PUR water pitcher, I can definitely taste a difference. I also noticed that when I do freeze the water (when I first got the pitcher I did use it for ice cubes) the purified water froze clearer than the non-purified water which was always cloudy. Not sure why, but I did notice it.
