I've been sitting here for the past hour thinking, "Something smells good. Someone must have flavored coffee or something. Maybe the Etch got a candle."
I finally realized what the smell is. It's me.
I'm trying out a new soap ("You Snap The Whip" from Lush http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/body/body-butters/you-snap-the-whip). It smells like blackcurrant and almonds. I guess I like it.
I met with the surgeon. He confirmed the doctor's suggestion that my gallbladder be removed.
This surgeon is from Grand Island which is 90 miles away. He comes here to our hospital a couple days a week. He did my colon surgery in '04.
He said that 99% of these gallbladder removals are now done on an outpatient basis, in and out in one day with endoscopic tools. The other 1% are rare cases where something happens in the process and they have to go in and do it the old fashioned way. He said that he is a little concerned that with the surgeries I had on my colon before, we have a bigger chance of trouble, but still not likely. Because of the higher risk factor, he wants me to go to Grand Island so if there are complications, he is in his own hospital, with his own team and feels more comfortable being there.
I guess, if the guy who is going to be inside me feels more comfortable being at his home, yeah, I can go to Grand Island.
So, we have it scheduled for next Wed, the 14th.
Now my loving, caring wife is ticked off. She already had 12th scheduled off work. Now, if she moves that to the 14th, she don't get a day "off". She hates medical stuff and waiting around like that. We have to figure out what to do with our son and school, and his Christmas program at church that night. So, I told her I could call my dad and see if he can go with me to drive home. That way, she wouldn't even have to put herself out and deal with my surgery at all. She thought that would be a better idea to see if dad could go. I called my dad and he has a colonoscopy planned for the next day (also in Grand Island), so on Wednesday, he will be drinking the clean out stuff. He will not be able to go. He did say that his wife could come get Logan from school and then either bring him home, or take him to the program later that night . . . so he's taken care of.
So, it's back on my wife again to go and she is back to ticked off. Since this is not an emergency kind of thing, I told her I could call the surgeon back and see about rescheduling another day so my dad could go. She thought, and thought, and thought, and finally said she'd make it work and she would go with me on Wednesday.
Some days, I just don't get her. I'm sorry my surgery is such an inconvenience to you.
Sorry that you have to have it done Web, but you'll feel much better afterwards. Well, after some healing. Good luck and may he be able to easily extract it endoscopically.

Stop trying to be what you see. Be what you ought to be.
Speaking of, we got the bill for Brian's emergency room visit. $4000+. He's taking it to the VA to see if he qualifies for any help on that cost, I think he does.
When we were talking about it, he was getting himself worked up, saying, "If they don't pay it, I'm going to ask why they even sent me there, I wouldn't have gone if I knew that." (By the way, his meds still haven't come in.)
I responded, "If your doctor tells you to go to the emergency room, you go to the emergency room! Your health is worth a lot more than $4000!" That settled him down a bit.
Yeah, dad's wife will be taking him. Same city, different hospital (he's going to the VA).
I called just to see what other days would be available. I had to leave a message with the surgeon's nurse so I won't know anything until she calls back.
The nurse called back. The surgeon is going out of town after next Wed. If I don't want to wait until he gets back (I don't) my only other choice would be Monday, but we'd have to be there at 7:00am. That would mean leaving here at 5:30. I called my wife and told gave her the option of seeing if dad could go with me on Monday but she said she's already moved her dates at work so leave it as it is.
MZ, I hope they cover some if not most of it. That's a big bill to have absorb out of nowhere. You're right though, the money is meaningless compared to his health.
I'll tell you, getting old sucks (and being out of shape doesn't help either). I ordered 4 relatively small items from Walmart last week and each item was shipped the same day via FedEx but from 4 different locations around he country. Of course, they're all arriving different days too, so all week I've been sleeping fully clothed and with one ear open so I hear het he buzzer when FedEx shows up.
Amazingly I've heard it each of the first three times so far. But today was the item I was most excited about and when the I heard the buzzer for some reason I thought it was the second time he rang it and in a panic I jumped out of bed and made a mad dash for the door. I got there in time but in the process pulled some muscle on my side and it's been hurting like a son of a... for the last three hours now.
